A great cordless vacuum cleaner can suck it all up in less than 20 seconds, the worst leave hair behind even after two minutes of continuous cleaning. The HF500 Anti-Twist comes with an optional wall mount that can be attached to the wall for storing the appliance. Given that the main button is surprisingly stiff it’s a welcome relief, but there’s yet another minor irritation here: it’s too easy to accidentally flick the latch back off, and even over just a few minutes’ use we’d find ourselves regularly switching the H-Free on and off by mistake. It also activates lights on the front of the main brush head to give you a better view of what your cleaning – a neat feature that we wish you could activate separately from the turbo mode. While some cordless vacuums will comfortably suck up dust from a flat hard surface, floorboards with deep crevices often prove a lot more challenging.

Thanks to the low weight and the flexible joint between the wand and the floor head, the H-Free 500 is effortless to push around, nimbly darting around furniture. I then spread a teaspoon of rice onto the floor and gave the Hoover H-Free 500 a single swipe through it. Performance is generally very good, although it can take a few swipes to pick up bigger spills – plus, the process for switching the floor head can be frustrating. Some cordless vacuum cleaners have suction channels that do not extend right to the edges of the floorhead and so can leave large uncleaned margins around the edge of rooms.

On the standard mode, suction is decent, and the H-Free mostly coped well with dust and small debris, but usually took a couple of passes to suck up stray hairs – enough that we’d be hesitant to recommend the standard model to anyone trying to clean up after a shedding pet. Given that I had to switch on Turbo mode regularly to clean up bigger spills, this isn’t a vacuum cleaner I could use for my entire house. Such plenty of yet worthy questions must make you scratch your head and look for their answers badly.
