About this deal

Widow Jane does actively distill in its facility. While those barrels will not have been old enough to make it into the current 10-year blend — remember, it opened in 2012 — those barrels may eventually make it into future batches as they reach the maturation threshold.

After fermentation and distillation of the mash bill, it is aged in new charred oak barrels for a decade to develop the great tasting notes of the straight bourbon whiskey. To that end, I’m tasting ten bourbon whiskeys blind that are at least ten years old. Then, I’m going to rank those bourbons based on taste alone. While ten years is the baseline, there are a couple of bourbons on this list that hit 12 to 16 years too, and I threw on one bourbon that’s a blend of 12 and 16-year-old barrels to see how it stands up. Generally speaking, bourbon hits a sweet spot around ten years old. It’s sort of a demarcation point between the cheaper, small-batch, bottled-in-bond stuff and the single barrels, unicorns, and super old stuff (think 20-plus years). Bourbon whiskeys around ten years old (or maybe a couple of years older) are a little more expensive, a little more refined, and a little more extra but they’re not always harder to find. The company originally started as an importer of cacao beans and a manufacturer of chocolate in Brooklyn, NY. Starting in 2012, they decided to branch out into the production of spirits as well, developing the Widow Jane brand.Once you get over the burn, the taste delivers pretty much exactly on the promise of the smell. The toffee and caramel flavors are very strong with the vanilla bringing up the rear. It has a deep copper-colored complexion and gives the most pleasing look. There is something very impressive about the deep, dark, and vibrant color bourbon, blended with different hues and shades. I loved the look of the bottle too. Nose The bottle looks impressive, enticing me to try the Widow Jane bourbon. Here is my thorough review on this bourbon after trying it. Presentation and Impressions The Whiskey

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). The bitter ginger is balanced nicely by the sweetness of the toffee and caramel flavors. But the problem here is that it might be too sweet. The liquor on its own is very sweet with the flavors within, and adding a bit of sugar in the ginger beer into the drink doesn’t help the situation. In 2018, after a litigious battle between Preston and potential buyers, the Widow Jane brand was acquired by Samson & Surrey — a drinks marketing support and consulting firm based in Miami, Florida. I gave this bourbon such high marks because of just how much it brought out of being good, plain old fashioned bourbon. Everything about it is pretty much what I expect from the benchmark experience, only more so. It isn’t especially sophisticated or robust, nor does it have any trademark outlier notes. Instead, it’s just a mighty fine example of what bourbon is stereotyped as, taking what is expected and doing it very well. For a label, it’s fairly plain. There’s a statement of the name of the bottler (Widow Jane) and some information about the spirit, and then the bottler has added some additional information about the specific batch and bottle that this spirit came from. That’s the kind of information you’d normally expect from a “small batch” distiller, except in this case it doesn’t look like this was made in small batches at all.If you add some orange bitters to the drink, it gives a great balance to your drink. The sweetness of the alcohol and citrus flavor from the orange makes this drink more delicious and balanced. Who would like the Widow Jane Bourbon taste? The only reason it’s slightly lower today is that it was only classic and not that little bit extra like the next few on the list. 5. 2021 Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch — Taste 5 Four Roses In the mouth: Bazooka Joe bubble gum, a bit of the aforementioned cherry taffy, and rose petals lead the way. Then one has to factor in a faint tobacco leaf note that accompanies creamy caramel, almond, and mineral water at midpalate. This all leaves just enough room for the slightest bit of mint and white pepper at the end. The finish is short-to-medium and the texture is also on the light side, though with plenty of well-rounded flavor this remains interesting despite its low proof. Conclusions:
