About this deal

Stand Up was the first album where Anderson controlled the music and lyrics, resulting in a group of diverse songs that ranged from the swirling blues of “A New Day Yesterday” and the mandolin-fueled rave-up of “Fat Man,” to the group’s spirited re-working of Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Bouree in E Minor.” Bass is honest, not hyped up and the mastering delivers full dynamics that are somewhat (but only slightly), compressed on the original. The booklet featured the pop-up woodcut band. Another difference between this and the other orange bullseye pink label pressing Jethro Tull - Stand Up is that the whole type set on Side One is printed slightly higher on the label; this is particularly noticeable when you look at the word STEREO, but in fact all of the type set is higher than that seen in Jethro Tull - Stand Up. On Side Two, the only obvious difference between the 2 orange bullseye pink label pressings is that the word "Produced" is slightly further away from the spindle hole on this pressing than on Jethro Tull - Stand Up. Clarity, transparency, high frequency extension and especially transient precision are all far superior to the original.

No, Jethro Tull is not just another English blues band. This Was, their first album, made some gestures in that direction, obligatory, in a way, for the time (summer of ’68); in its differences it was intriguing even as it disappointed. Its inadequacies were unconventional; the essential problem seemed to be a style in search of a subject. Chrisley, Neil (5 June 2013). "Joe Satriani on His Five Essential Albums". Gibson.com. Gibson Guitar Corporation . Retrieved 3 November 2015. On their second album, Jethro Tull draws inspiration from a wide spectrum of genres, ranging from classical, to blues, folk, and even Indian music. And yet, despite the sharp contrast between these influences, the album always never comes across as disorganized or disjointed-a fine achievement. The 1969 Rolling Stone review was quite positive, stating that the album "has a fairly low raunch quotient, true to form, but it is quite marvellous" and also that "the album is not really funky; rather, it is a meticulously crafted work (no sterility implied) which deserves careful listening. At a time when many of the established stars are faltering, it is a particular pleasure to hear an important new voice." [17] The contemporary Disc and Music Echo review was less favourable; it considered the expensive cover the "most impressive" part of the album and Jethro Tull a good live band but still incapable of producing a "musically interesting" release. [21] American critic Robert Christgau reiterated his dislike of the band, but judged the album "adequate" in his Village Voice review. [20] The cover was based on ideas from Terry Ellis and John Williams and printed from woodcuts by New York graphic artist, Jimmy Grashow."inch Vinyl Record 140 / 150 Gram Vinyl Record 180 Gram Vinyl Record 200 Gram Vinyl Record 45 RPM Vinyl Record 7 inch Vinyl D2D Vinyl Record Low Serial Numbered Vinyl Record Multi-Format Box Sets Preowned Vinyl Record Sealed Out-of-Print Vinyl Record System Set Up Record UHQR Vinyl Record Vinyl LP Box Sets - New & Preowned Preowned Vinyl Box Sets Vinyl Box Sets Vinyl LP with Damaged Cover Vinyl Record Vinyl Record & CD Vinyl Record & DVD Vinyl Record, DVD & CD Vinyl Test Pressing CD Player D/A Converter or Processor Disc Player / DSD-capable USB DAC Hi Res Audio Player iPod Audio Portable DAP (Digital Audio Player) Software• Furniture flat transfer of the original stereo master tapes, and the original mono and stereo mixes of Living In The Past and Driving Song.

And yet, Stand Up’s most interesting portions are those in which the band toys with various styles and tries to inject the tired and true blues formula with some vitality and originality. Innovative songs such as Fat Man, which sees the band flirting with lively sitars and Indian motifs, and Sweet Dream, with its tempo changes and breathtaking orchestral arrangements, see the band pushing their compositional and musical abilities to the very limits. Also worth noting is Bouree, a jazzy, wild reinterpretation of a piece by J.S. Bach that soon became a staple of the band’s live show and is still constantly performed to this day. Now comes Analogue Productions’ 180-gram double 45 RPM reissue sourced from the original Island master tapes sent over from the U.K.

On The Go

The Stand Up Elevated Edition is a great sounding box set that features what some, including myself, feel is Tull's best album. Having listened to some of the other Tull “book” editions, I feel that Stand Up is better than anything else they ever released, including Aqualung. It’s a shame they could never match the quality of Stand Up.
