Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) is really abrasive and this allows it to really remove stains on teeth. The combination of baking soda and sodium chlorate (a bleaching agent) does wonders. They also guarantee no pain or sensitivity at any point during or after the whitening process, and results of up to 8 shades whiter teeth.
Other whitening kits that make very similar claims about their effectiveness and contain gel, a mouth tray and light are available at the supermarket or pharmacy for less than half the price of HiSmile.
