My guy then goes on to say, "I'm not bright like you, but I promise, when your days are dark, I'll be your light." šŸ˜šŸ˜ā¤ļø Abusers donā€™t deserve tears. When the last flower was placed on the casket, and it was all over, I didnā€™t cry. I smiled.ā€ The author took so much of Thayer's personality away and reduced it to- "I love Salem." I loved his character in the first book, he was his own man. He was rugged; this one made him soft (not in a good way) and he's total pushover. My guy doesn't even want to express his emotions in fear of losing her. That's not healthy.

the hero thayer. he's a dilf daddy and the things that he did for salem when he JUST met her... šŸ˜ have mercy, a girl can only take so much before she combusts! TWs: Cancer, Death, Childhood Sexual Abuse (father), Cheating (their first time she is still with her BF)

Salem. She's become selfish in this one. Some of the decisions she made were questionable. Caleb and Thayer both deserve better. I would not even want to be friends with a character like thatšŸ‘€Also, she's obviously older in this one but she still talks like an 18 year old.

the EXACT same thing happened in Malum: Part 1 by amo jones and it made me so angry i couldn't get over it, and then the same thing happened here. Salem is 18 and doesn't really know what she wants to do, but is currently content living in her small town and making candles. Thayer is a 31-year old recently-divorced single dad and her new grumpy neighbour. No matter what conditions look like around youā€”keep on believing, keep on persistingā€”keep on goingā€”keep on growing. Just like wildflowers grow wherever they choose, no matter the conditionsā€”be and be becoming all that you were created to be and become.ā€ Throughout this was an emotion rollercoaster. Itā€™s interesting how much Salem endured but still managed to shine. While comparatively Thayerā€™s life honestly seemed less complicated and he didnā€™t endure it as well. One aspect of the book that could have been improved was the pacing of certain scenes. Some pivotal moments in the story felt rushed when they should have been more detailed to fully explore the charactersā€™ emotional development. One thing after another came at our FMC that kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the other shoe to drop. And when it inevitably did, I never saw it coming.

To quote Salem, "Thayer Holmes might not realise how special he is, but I know." And yes that's accurate. this is in no way a bad review, im just traumatized at the moment. and i feel like some plot points were unnecessary. Salemā€™s character is amazing. She has been through so much and to see how strong she is, is incredible.

The house is quiet as I bake, but I donā€™t mind it. I like being alone, crave it. When Iā€™m alone I donā€™t have to fake anything, paste a smile on my face if I donā€™t feel like it or participate in conversation when Iā€™d rather be silent.ā€ Abusers donā€™t deserve tears. When the last flower was placed on the casket, and it was all over, I didnā€™t cry. I smiled.

The heroine was immature with little to no growth. The endless trauma was added one on top of another so this read like poorly written literary fiction tragedy porn. The pacing was abysmally slow. And there was no layered build up of emotion only the unnecessary and heavy handed use of throwing in every possible tragic scenario to FORCE some kind of emotion out of the reader because the writing alone could not do it. I don't really know what the author was trying to accomplish with this story because literally nothing happened until the last tragic event that caused the third act break up.Additionally, the age gap between Salem and Thayer, a central theme of the book, could have been explored with more depth and complexity. While their connection was undeniably heartwarming, it sometimes felt like Thayer did not fully embody his age due to his actions and choices, which made the age gap less noticeable than expected.
