About this deal

Take your Warhammer 40,000 battles into the interior of claustrophobic void ships in Arks of Omen: Abaddon . The first volume in the galaxy-quaking Arks of Omen series, this book sets the narrative as Vashtorr provides Abaddon with the means to raise his terrible Balefleets. Boarding Actions missions take place within the knotted insides of hulking void ships, where every corridor and room can hide a deadly threat. Build your own void ship to fight through with the Boarding Actions Terrain Set. This highly modular kit contains two double-sided gaming boards, as well as enough frames of terrain to make 68 individual pieces of Gallowdark terrain that you can configure in a wide range of combinations. The Boarding Actions or Killteam terrain consists of a LOT of pieces of terrain. If you try to print all that in resin, you are going to feel it in your bags. This terrain set prints in about 70h in my BambuLab P1P, and eats up 1.4kg of PLA (roughly 23€ for me). The Arks of Omen series introduces rules for Boarding Actions – tightly-fought games of Warhammer 40,000 that recreate oppressive assaults on the claustrophobic confines of voidcraft and space hulks. It's a fresh way to play Warhammer 40,000 using your existing collections.

A space hulk is an immense amalgamation of stellar debris, starships, and other detritus that have fused together after having been collected together in the warp over the course of millennia. These vessels are at a scale that’s difficult to fathom, potentially hundreds of miles long and consisting of vessels that can be older than the Imperium itself. When the vagaries of the warp unleash them into realspace, they often are infested with all manner of horrors and monstrosities that have been corrupted from exposure to the raw energies of the warp. Others may be filled with Orks hell bent on turning the hulk into the vehicle for their next great WAAAGH!, or Genestealers patiently waiting centuries for the opportunity to descend upon an unsuspecting world and form a psychic beacon to draw the Great Devourer. In the hands of Vashtorr and Abaddon, they are purged of a significant amount of their taint and reborn into Arks of Omen. Mix the Burnt Umber 50/50 with water, and slop this all over the model. The more water you use, the less dirty the terrain will look, so feel free to play around with this ratio. This gets messy, so do this over a lunch tray or something similar (bonus: the tray will catch excess paint dripping off the model, which you can re-apply to later pieces). Honestly my opinion is that this rule set should have been released as a booklet in a White Dwarf and then they could have drip fed the rest of the Faction-specific content over the next few issues. I doubt we’ll see any FAQs or a second print run of the Boarding Action terrain set for this series which is a shame because it looks like a lot of fun to play. So maybe organize a whip round your gaming group and chip in for the terrain and the books? The second part of the book covers Boarding Action battles, a variant of Warhammer 40,000 played with 500-point forces in the cramped confines of a space hulk. These games take place on a Boarding Actions Terrain Set, which is essentially two sets of Kill Team: Into the Dark Terrain laid next to each other. In practice, these function as a stripped-down version of the 40k ruleset, with very strict limitations on what types of units players can bring and a very limited set of upgrades and Stratagems to work with. Terrain

Space Marine Adventures ( Rise of the Orks • Doomsday Countdown) • Fireteam • Kill Team • Combat Arena: Clash of Champions • Boarding Actions The book features a total of nine missions in a familiar format, with each mission containing specific rules, objectives, Underdog Bonus, and a map for setting up the individual terrain sections. Every mission but one features four objective markers (Power Struggle features five). Every mission features a progressive objective revolving around controlling objective markers in addition to a secondary element such as an end game objective. All but one (Access Junction Primus) includes a caveat that objectives cannot be controlled in the first round and that the player who goes second scores their final turn at the end of the turn instead of at the end of their Command Phase. Unlike matched play there are no secondary objectives or bonus points for having a painted army. There is also no limit on the total points that can be achieved from securing primary objectives, outside of those specified in the missions. If a unit’s minimum size is 5, you can include that unit as a minimum sized unit, or if it can include additional models, then you can do so as long as the Starting Strength of that unit is 10. Rob: Yeah I can see this being used as a set of side missions in a Crusade campaign, and it’s a much better 500-point start to a campaign in terms of balance and play experience. It’s something we’re planning to use and work into our upcoming global crusade campaign. Boarding Action Missions

Operate HatchwayOne or more units from your army can start to perform this action at the end of the Move Units step of your Movement phase if they are within 1" of a Hatchway. This action can be performed by any unit that is not within Engagement Range of any enemy models, even if that unit is being affected by a rule that would normally prevent it from performing actions. The action is completed at the end of your Movement phase if no enemy models are within 1" of that Hatchway. If there are any enemy models within 1" of that Hatchway, your opponent can attempt to prevent the action from being completed. If they do so, roll off with your opponent; each player adds the Strength characteristic of one of their models that is within 1" of that Hatchway to their respective scores. If you win, the action is completed; otherwise, the action fails. If completed, that Hatchway opens (if it was closed) or closes (if it was open). Set to Defend: This can also be performed in the Movement Phase, and gives your unit a +1 to hit rolls in close combat until the end of your opponent’s next turn.

Rules for playing Boarding Action games of Warhammer 40,000 are found in the Arks of Omen: Abaddon supplement. Try to cover less space with each layer (e.g. start from the middle of the wall with The Fang and only cover the top quarter of the wall with Russ Grey. This hugely modular Boarding Actions Terrain Set includes everything you need to set up this pulse-pounding game mode, including detailed corridor walls, hatchway doors that can open and close mid-game, and loads of pillars to connect them all, plus two double-sided gaming boards to bring your battlefield to life. The box includes two full sets of Gallowdark terrain, which you can combine and arrange in a huge variety of ways to build a dense and deadly environment.

Death in the Dark splits the field into two Lighting Areas (corresponding to each board), and at the end of each Movement phase the lights in each zone can turn on or off. Up to 15 points can be earned each turn for controlling one, two,, or more objectives and the end game objective gives an additional 15 points per Lighting Area if the player controls every objective in that region. Assuming you have the terrain set available, the game board consists of two game boards laid side by side to create a long battlefield area. The terrain is the same system as provided by Into the Dark , consisting of columns, walls, and hatchways. The system is intended to be flexible and you do not want to glue the pieces into subassemblies, as all of the missions specify the board layout down to the position of individual wall section. Setup is very explicit about using the provided game board, which features a template where columns and walls can be located in a grid-like pattern. Each square that is formed by this grid is referred to as a Zone. You’ll lose the “powder” effect due to the varnish, but it will keep the pigment powder from rubbing off.I am thrilled to bring you this terrain set, designed to be compatible with the new Boarding Actions game mode for Warhammer 40k, but also with other game systems such as Killteam, Warcry, or dungeon based RPGs such as DnD or Rogue trader.

Rob: There’s a really cool bit of lore in here that talks about the difficulty actually leading the chaos legions, with Abaddon musing about the difficulty of managing a bunch of disparate warbands. It’s a cool setup for the Warmaster’s headspace as he figures out his next steps. Then we played some games – Liam proceeding to comprehensively own both me and Scott across a couple of rounds, with my poor Necrons getting shot to death by Dire Avengers and the White Scars outwitted on objectives. This section is mostly just an excuse to dump action shots below: Finally, the Salamanders Warforged Strike Force is great for fans of infantry assaults – not to mention flamers and meltas – with 20 Intercessors, three Eradicators, three Aggressors, and Adrax Agatone to oversee them all.

If a unit’s minimum size is less than 5, you can only include that unit in your Boarding Patrol if it is a minimum sized unit. With the Expanded Set Pledge you get to make any map configuration you wish and ad extra bling to it! Create more interesting atmospheres with the accesory structures that protrude from the pillars. You can find a more detailed breakdown at the bottom of this article. Kill Team: Gallowfall – Price, Value and Savings Breakdown – Contents
