About this deal

Sonny drags a couple of chairs over from the next table and sits down beside me, leaning down to give Bertie a rigorous pat. We walk past the busy tables out at the front, under the canopy of wisteria heavy with cascading purple flowers, and straight inside to the bar. The privilege of having such an ease of access to good vision care that I take for granted was evident when contrasted, via some impactful examples, to the experiences of the homeless people Sonny met throughout the project. Thanks is extended to Penguin Random House Australia for providing me with a review copy of The Minute I Saw You.

One night with Sonny before he left for Amsterdam would have been perfect, but there’s fat chance of that happening now. In fact what Hannah was hiding, was so unexpected, I literally guessed it about 5 pages before the reveal, and even then I didn't fully guess. Thankfully, Hannah ’ s fleshed-out character is a trait that ’ s realised in all of the novel ’ s major players, who all feel like completely real people with their own lives and motivations, rather than just popping up to serve the needs of the main couple. I promise not to try to sleep with you either,’ he replies weakly, and I detect regret mingled in with his relief, which my ego finds mildly gratifying. I regard him suspiciously, trying to ignore the butterflies that are stretching their wings in my stomach. If asked, I couldn’t put my finger on why exactly I took such issue with it – the fact that I had guessed most of the reveal but didn’t see this coming would surely have been a testament to the usurpation of the standard romance formula – but it niggled at me as really implausible. After grabbing some drinks, we make our way to the beer garden, a long, narrow stretch of grass lined with bench tables. I nod, then seeing his mind ticking over, explain, ‘I lived with him and my aunt June when I was a teenager.

Nessa was planning on coming out on Friday night, but changed her mind when she heard that Sonny was invited. This story is beautiful in so many ways, it’s a heartfelt romance with lots of sweet compelling moments which really tugged upon my heartstrings. When Hannah meets Sonny, she's irresistibly drawn to him: he's sexy and confident, but only in town on holiday. But as time goes on and their chemistry shows no sign of cooling, they start to question their reasons for shutting each other out.A central coloured iris is set on a square white background, and tiny words run around the rim of the iris in a circle, telling us about the subject: who they are and what they like people to know about them. I definitely want to see more of Hannah and Sonny and although I read a lovely little short story about Matilda and Archie, they definitely need their own novel, I need more! There’s the slightest trace of abrasion under my thumbs as they rest on his cheeks and give the frames a wiggle. My only friend from school who still lives around here has recently had a baby and hasn’t been up for much socialising. Stories that they would rather keep hidden but after spending time together they learn to trust and let down just a little bit of the walls they both have firmly in place.

I wish to thank Penguin Books Australia for providing me with a free copy of this book for review purposes. I think we all try to guess what may happen, or what the dramatic twist may be and I hadn't predicted this at all, well not completely. Once upon a time, Charles used to kiss June goodbye and walk out of his back door, then make his way around the side of the building. Along the way, this couple confront their personal demons, difficult pasts and they learn to trust again. I also really enjoyed the Cambridgeshire setting, the secondary characters - particularly Archie and Matilda, plus Natalie and Imogen - and the star guest appearances (again no spoilers here!My casual clothes couldn’t be more different from the strait-laced uniform I’m required to wear for work.
