About this deal

Maybe the most multipurpose of all types of spatulas, silicone spatulas are generally associated with baking, but their uses don't stop there. The edges of the flat spatula vary, but in most cases, there is one squared-off edge at the top, and one rounded edge, making it easy to push batter into the corners of a pan or scrape the bottom of a round bowl, all with the same tool. Spatulas where the top edge is mostly flat are great for stirring and are able to evenly scrape more surface area of the bottom of a pot.

In this set, the 10-inch blue spatula is ideal for getting into food jars and other small spaces. The 12.5-inch red spatula has a rounded edge for scraping the last bits of batter and sauce out of your bowls, as well as a square edge for pushing batter into corners. The 12-inch white spoon spatula, or spoonula, is great for scooping, mixing, and tasting. A fish spatula is basically a slotted metal turner, but it gets its own category because its uses are slightly more niche than your standard flat turner. Fish spatulas are usually bent at an angle and have a sharp, blade-like edge that can easily slide under browned foods and pull them up in one piece. The large slots allow cooking liquids to drain and help to distribute weight so the food doesn't fall off. When you're finished using them, the spatula heads can be tossed into the dishwasher with the rest of your utensils for a thorough cleaning. However, the wooden handles aren't dishwasher-safe, and they're not quite as heat resistant, so be careful when leaning these spatulas against the side of a pot or using over an open flame. OXO Good Grips Wooden Turner Spatula: Our original list included this wooden spatula option, but after testing, we can no longer stand behind the recommendation. Wooden spatulas are nice to look at and won't scratch your cookware, they don't offer many other benefits over silicone or metal options. The wood will become rough with wear and can stain, and will need extra seasoning with oil in addition to the regular handwashing. The handles can burn if left too close to a flame, and the spatula itself is best used for serving since it's too inflexible to be useful for cooking. With this model, our home tester found it very uncomfortable to hold, too big to fit into smaller pans, and after only a few uses, it already needed to be rubbed with mineral oil to soften the wood. If you’re someone who regularly cooks fish at home, you need to own a fish spatula. This tool has an elongated and extra thin blade that easily slips under delicate fillets. It also has long slots, which allows liquid to drain. These differences are far from esthetic. While it is possible to be flexible with your kitchen utensil sets, you shouldn’t wait until the fire is on to figure out how to best use each model. Spatulas may have started as versatile cooking utensils, but just like everything else from bowls, forks to spoonsin the modern kitchen, they have progressively diverged and specialized. We now have a handful of possible spatula models, all available in different materials.

OXO's line of kitchen hand tools is where Good Grips began, and has only improved and expanded. Incredibly popular, OXO products can be found in department stores, home goods stores, and even grocery stores. Known for durability and ease of use, OXO hand tools are median-priced tools that will last several years when used appropriately.Seen much less often and typically only in smaller sizes, the pointed spatula is made specifically for spreading or digging into very tight corners or scraping food at an extreme angle—like from the very bottom of a blender. Regardless of which style of spatula you prefer, it's a good idea to have a range of sizes to work with. Small, medium, large, and jumbo spatulas can come in handy for so many different projects. You can think of small spatulas as extensions of your fingers. Want to get that last bit of queso dip at the bottom of the jar? Or maybe scrape down to the bottom of your blender to get all of the smoothie ingredients mixed? A small spatula is there for you. Some smaller spatulas even come with longer and narrower handles just for such purposes. While we love our large spoonula and industrial spatula, there are just some places those larger tools can't go—like the bottom of a tiny jar of honey, for example, or into the corners of a blender to scoop out every last bit of smoothie. For this reason, we like to have a set of miniature silicone spatulas on hand for the really tough tiny jobs in the kitchen, and this set of two from Tovolo is a great option. Most silicone spatulas are dishwasher safe and easy to clean by hand. A few things you'll want to pay attention to are food residue build-up in any creases or in a spatula with a detachable head. These may need to be scrubbed and rinsed out by hand to be thoroughly cleaned. Spatulas with detachable heads will need to be completely dry before being reassembled to avoid trapping any water inside the spatula or risking water draining out into your next cooking project.
