About this deal

Disc Three offers “The Appendices, Part V — The War of the Ring” which starts with an introduction by Peter Jackson (2 min.

While that will no doubt give some pause, keep in mind that all of the extras were originally produced in SD, meaning high definition source files don't exist. A trilogy of classic, frankly must-see movies that transport you to another world, rich with all of the lush landscapes and epic effects that we have, more recently, seen in the likes of Avatar, but also boasting well-developed characters, decent dialogue and a multi-layered storyline to hold it all together. Some fans love it, some hate it, some hate it on general principle, and others don’t even care – and wouldn’t have even noticed were it not pointed out to them. It seems that if a rating for this edition only was calculated, it would be much closer to 5-stars than the current 3. The only major sequence added is the thing the fans of the book clamored for most: a flashback in which Faramir (Wenham) and Boromir (Sean Bean) confront their father Denethor (John Noble) — who treats Faramir as the lesser son — over who gets to go to Rivendell for the meeting held in Fellowship.

From the origins of the rings, to the splitting of a group of kindred spirits who set out to free the world, from humble beginnings to great expectations. But the story works its magic in crafting a world so unusual, yet strangely familiar through its decaying powers and landscapes, as well as the multitude of personalities, it draws the viewer in, to get to know and care about the story, easily and painlessly. All the supplements are the same, and they include everything from the four disc sets previously released, along with the Costa Botes documentaries – the ones issued with the two-disc EE sets. It’s a must-have collection, it’s just a shame that the odd colour timing issues have left me unable to completely rave about the release without qualifying my statement first. I'm stunned that even the whites are affected; this looks like something went terribly wrong somewhere. But everything rests on Frodo getting that ring destroyed as both he and Sam come to think it will be the end of them. covers all the Kiwi locations of the third film, while Middle Earth Atlas allows the user to track the paths followed through Middle Earth in the course of the movie.
