About this deal

A whopping 3kg of British potatoes go into each and every bottle of Portobello Road’s vodka, which is made at the brand’s Notting Hill distillery. This particular edition was crafted using rye grown on a single estate in Smogóry, a village in Poland surrounded by forests. Although fairly neutral, the panel enjoyed a raw almond nuttiness on the nose, that led to clean, fresh tasting pepper on the palate. We love it when the underdog beats the big brands, and this small South African spirit seriously impressed our panel. You’re left with a spirit with a botanical edge — slightly sweet and floral — with a hint of minerality and citrus that scored well with our panel.

If you're looking for a bit of heat in your cocktails, then Belvedere has you covered with its Ginger Zest expression! Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ. It reminded testers of the brand’s gin, with a floral-led juniper note, lemon peel and black pepper. The ingredients are all organic and with no sugar or additives included along the way – it's brimming with warming natural fruit and spice character. Belvedere Heritage 176 takes inspiration from Polish distilling traditions, using centuries-old rye malting techniques. Unlike others, it’s made with sugarcane, and has a bright citrus note, with a tickle of black pepper.

The brand, which is based in Latvia, has also announced it is no longer sourcing ingredients from Russia. The small-batch spirit is made from sugarcane and won our panel over with its bright citrus notes and hint of black pepper.

And while rum is often associated with sunnier climates (such as the Caribbean), and tequila coming strictly from Mexico, vodka is a much more global spirit.
