Bluey: The Beach, a board book based on the animated TV series and published by Penguin Random House Australia’s Puffin imprint, has become the first children’s picture book to be named book of the year at the Australian Book Industry awards. Bluey is an Australian children's television program by the Emmy award-winning Ludo Studio for ABC KIDS and is co-commissioned by ABC Children's and BBC Studios. This book is based on an episode of the show, but it would work well for children who are fans or those who are new to Bluey.

All of these nuggets make this book worth reading, but there’s not much that tops your toddler getting particularly excited at Bluey’s reunion with mum. The illustrations are bright and colorful, and do an excellent job of capturing the fun and excitement of a day at the beach. What child doesn’t love a story involving cute puppies and for even more fun it’s a 'Lift The Flap' book! Her youngest asked me to read this book which is set on the beach when Bluey and her family go there. It is subtle enough that some kids won't pick up on the melancholy aspects, but they will still love the book.

Biography: Bluey is an Emmy award-winning Australian children's television programme currently showing on Disney+ in the UK that celebrates play. Along the way, mermaid-with-legs Bluey encounters many things that both challenge and delight her: a surfing champion (voiced by surfing legend Layne Beachley), a flock of seagulls, a big wave that covers Mums footsteps, a weeing pippy, a soldier crab (followed by a herd of soldier crabs), a scary jellyfish and a washed out sand castle that she decides must be a mermaid house.The storyline contains a lot of bravery and a really great show of manners with Bluey being polite, even to the sea creatures in her way. I recently picked up the Bluey children's book about being at the beach for my 4-year-old daughter, and it has quickly become one of her favorites. Yet perhaps, they are picking up on the complex mystery behind a love for the simple things - like walking by yourself along the shore. Along the way she encounters a surfer, some pesky seagulls, a cast of crabs, a washed-up jellyfish and a rather large and nervous pelican.
