About this deal

The Colored Bead Stairs are a strategy to visually show the quantity of a number, connect that quantity to a name, and connect the name to a written symbol. Additionally, they can be used to introduce your student to the concept of “teen” numbers (11-19). Here is an example of how to use the Golden Bead Materials to teach a student addition. Using these same procedures you can teach the student subtraction and multiplication as well: Hide and Seek Learning: The beads are printed on one side, enabling teachers to hide a number for children to identify. It adds an element of interactive learning, making lessons fun and engaging. Bead strings are ideal for helping to maintain student interaction in the classroom, great for emergent learners during maths lessons. Montessori teaching is a great way to engage with students in every content area. Because math is a subject that is harder for students to learn independently, the Montessori method has created bead activities to interactively teach students those concepts.

Ask the student to take one of the “10” bars and placing it next to the number 10 card in the middle. The Golden Bead Materials are sets of individual golden beads, bars of ten beads, squares of 100, and cubes of 1000. This strategy is to help the student learn higher numbers and understand places. As the student places down each amount of ’10’ bars, tell the student what that number is called. For example, “two ’10’ bars are called twenty.” *Pointing at the bars* “This is twenty.” Bead strings are brilliant for visualising numbers with a moveable object. You can hide or cover certain parts of a bead string so children find it easier to count each individual bead.Bright and Colorful: The 1-20 Lacing Number Beads are a visual delight, coming in vivid shades of yellow, green, red, and blue. Their vibrant colors make counting and number recognition an exciting adventure. Place value -You can partition bead strings into sets of numbers for children to count or add. For example, splitting the below beads into 3 + 2 + 3 + 2 = 10. This is ideal for discerning place value and understanding how many beads go into each number. When the student puts the bar down in front of you, ask the student to count the beads to verify it was the correct bar. When you get to 900, tell the student “the next set would be ten hundred squares, but like the other sections we are going to move to a new place with a bigger tool. Ten hundred squares are called 1000. We need to get a thousand cube and then move to a new place.”

Educational Versatility: Measuring 2.5cm square, these beads are not only suitable for counting but also for developing fine motor skills, practicing math concepts, and enhancing sorting and counting abilities. Ask the student to grab the golden bead quantities for those numbers and place them above their corresponding numeral cards. These beads have a wonderful purpose that extends beyond jewellery making. By using as an educational tool, asking children to spell words by threading them onto stringing materials such as cord, these beads can be used to help develop fine motor skills and advancement with spelling and language through a fun, rewarding craft. Learning is always more engaging when there is fun to be had! When you get to 90, tell the student “the next set would be ten ’10’ bars, but like the last section we are going to move to a new place with a bigger tool. Ten ’10’ bars are called 100. We need to get a hundred square and then move to a new place.”

Large numbers -Using 100 bead strings give children a chance to understand big numbers visually. You can line up several sets of bead strings to go over 100.

Ask the student to give you a specific bar by placing it in front of you. For example, say “will you please give me five.” Explain “we have two rows here, one with 1532 and the other with 3265. We are going to put them together into one row at the bottom. When we put numbers together, it is called addition because we are adding the numbers together. When we add numbers, we always start with the right side first.” Along with set directions on how to use the Montessori bead strategies, there are different variations that you can use for your student. Here are both basic and modified ways to use Montessori beads to teach your student math: Colored Bead Stairs Ask the student to show how many beads are in that number by grabbing a “10” bar and the corresponding bar from the Colored Bead Stair.Tell the student “we need to get a ’10’ bar instead of ten individual beads. Then, we need to move to a new place.”
