404 Not found error when switching store views

Postby TWDesign » Fri Nov 06, 2009 5:04 am

I have two store views A and B, each a different language.

The categories for view A show up fine, as do the categories in view B.

When I select a PRODUCT in view A and switch to view B, the PRODUCT shows up fine.
So far so good.

I have a few CMS pages in view A and view B and they switch without a problem also.

BUT.....

If I select a CATEGORY list in view A and then try to switch to view B.

ERROR 404. Page not found page (view B language version) appears.

I don’t think this is default Magento behaviour so could someone tell me what is going wrong.
I have a fair hunch it is something in the Manage Products or Manage Category settings.

Does the Default Category (the root category) need to be set to active? Currently it is set to NO.

hard to visualise exactly what the problem is

but I would check the website and category options on the admin and make sure all the right boxes are ticked

I sorted this one out some time back.

The trick is that you need to use the SAME url for both store views.

For example you should set the url to:

www.mysite.com/aboutus

for ALL your store views whether that be English, German or whatever.
You control what the browser can see through the Store view scope in the top left drop down on the Admin
screen.
