About this deal

From breakfast, alongside some of the attendees, who were talking books with each other a mile a minute, to the public event at The Sheldonian where everyone was lively and engaged – I felt I had arrived in a kind of literary heaven.

He is best-known for his educational comedy podcast for the BBC, You're Dead to Me, which has had over 65 million downloads. She has been drawing stories since 1997, when she first discovered what pencils and paints could really do. Through Richmond’s life you can see racial politics and the abolition of slavery, the war with America, the war with France, and poverty.

For more of Greg Jenner, listen to his BBC Sounds podcast You’re Dead to Me, or check out his range of books for both kids and adults.

Jenner has accredited the success of Horrible Histories to a non-patronising approach to children’s television. Back in the 16th century, you probably wouldn’t have seen Henry VIII singing an Elvis-inspired “a little more reformation, a lot less monasteries”, accompanied by dancing nuns wearing handcuffs, as he did in Jenner’s song which he says he composed “mostly in the shower.

I've listened to the audiobook version and Greg Jenner narrates it perfectly - his enthusiasm for history is contagious, and he uses humour all the way through.

It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. The illustrations are nice, the content is easy to read and totally accessible across several age groups and readers, but particularly nerdy ones I suspect.

We absolutely love how this book puts young readers at the heart of history as a way of keeping them engaged and entertained. There are fifty objects in total and each one is explored through a combination of jaw-dropping facts, eye-watering jokes, and exciting real-life stories from across the world and centuries.

I highly recommend this book and I think it's a great way to introduce younger people to history and show them that not all history is boring! Mae Jenner yn adrodd y straeon difyr sydd y tu ôl i bob math o bethau dinod – gan gynnwys sebon, grawnfwyd, bwlb golau, gemau pêl, ffonau, soffas a phyjamas, wedi’u harchwilio gyda chyfuniad o ffeithiau anhygoel, jôcs sy’n tynnu dŵr i’r llygaid a straeon bywyd go iawn o ledled y byd ac ar draws y canrifoedd. Dead Famous: An Unexpected History of Celebrity from Bronze Age to Silver Screen was released in 2020. Discover how cereal came to be and what were classified as beds in the Stone Age, the weird and painful history of soap, and the bike style in the "olden days"!Jenner is a historian, author and podcast host, specialising in communicating history through popular culture. As historical consultant to the BAFTA award-winning CBBC comedy series Horrible Histories, Jenner ensured the factual accuracy of hundreds of side-splitting sketches. Jenner featured as an expert on the BBC2 television programme Inside Versailles, [13] as well as for the Independent newspaper, discussing historical accuracy in television programmes. Having written Dead Famous (2020), a non-fiction novel that examines the lives of more than 125 of the world’s first celebrities, Jenner is over-qualified for suggesting a topic for a biography series. It is aimed at children, but for adults too this book is interesting, informative and highly enjoyable.
