About this deal

Every other camera company besides Sony that has updated to the latest and greatest memory card format is using Type B, and as such there are a lot more options in the marketplace. When it comes to CF card readers, one reliable option that is commonly recommended is the "Transcend USB 3. Too hot to touch for more than a few seconds is about 80C, the Sandisk Extreme Pro cards are certified to operate in ambient temperatures up to 70C, so I would imagine they get a fair bit hotter to touch in those conditions!

This patented technology will s treamline your workflow on a mountaintop, backseat of a ride, or anywhere else your life takes you. Our CFexpress Type B Card Reader MK2 processes data at uninterrupted transfer speeds using a USB-C 3. Whether you work in photography, video or a little of both, you can use a card reader to get the content off your camera and onto a computer or hard drive that much quicker. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. With USB Type-C Gen2 speeds* the SanDisk Extreme PRO CFexpress Card Reader optimises the performance of the CFexpress card Type B(1) for smooth, efficient workflow from location to post production.

cards were much closer, but standouts include the ProGrade Cobalt card, Delkin’s Black series, and Lexar’s Diamond series. Also included is a 2-year limited warranty from the trusted brand in imaging memory cards and readers. Credit is provided by Novuna Personal Finance, a trading style of Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. At the time of writing this, there are only two CFexpress Type-B readers with the 20Gbps USB-C Interface. Please note that the warranty does not cover consumer caused damages such as misuse, abuse or repairs attempted by someone other than our authorized technicians. It is also USB-C connected to use with the latest computers, and comes with a half-meter USB-C cable for greater flexibility. Made in Austria’ Production Quality: Rock-solid hard anodized aluminium build for CFexpress data offloading at unrestricted speeds. M1 macs as an example don’t support this and I’m not sure if M2 macs do yet either, so you’ll be limited to a PC build if you want to take advantage of these speeds.

Let’s get to the good news: every card we tested worked to our satisfaction when it comes to recording high-resolution video data. Different digital cameras use different types of memory cards, which are not only different in terms of their capacities and transfer speeds, but are also different shapes and sizes. Copying and backing up files at high speed boosts workflow, allowing you to get back to filming quickly. But if you're dealing with multiple larger cards you might/likely want every bit of speed you can get. We’ve also included non-slip rubber pads for added stability during operation or on uneven work surfaces.

Our Solid Connect™ recessed connection logic provides a secure connection point and minimizes wear and tear. Sometimes over time the adhesive will not hold and the magnet can break away, but some higher-quality double-side tape can fix this. In the case where a card manufacturer also supplies a card reader, we used paired those products together. We've been using a full production version of this 120 fps sports camera, to see what you gain (and, perhaps, lose).

Always check on the warranty details before making an expensive purchase like a CFexpress card to make sure you feel comfortable relying on it to hold your photos and videos. No – while many card readers have multiple slots for different card types, you need to make sure you have the correct type for the card you’re using. It’s hard to go wrong these days, and almost every card we tested will serve photographers and videographers well. We use cookies on this site for carious purposes, including to enhance site performance, personalize your experience. Memory card readers come in all sorts of different configurations, but in practice they are very simple. The Canon EOS R5 can capture 20 frames per second in both JPEG and RAW when using the electronic shutter. Every card, regardless of the speeds promised, was able to ingest 8K RAW video footage until the camera overheated, which means it’s highly unlikely that anyone would run into any issues with the cards when shooting in the field — the camera will fail before the card does. For these tests, I ran the cards through the AJA system test freshly formatted in the Nikon Z 6 on a 2018 Macbook Pro.
