There were several odd paint choices used on this figure. The left arm is molded in purple plastic to properly match the rest of the robot mode… but is then painted over in tank-mode grey paint, even though the arm is not visible in tank mode at all. The vehicle mode's wheels are molded in the same translucent orange as the cannon, and then painted over with a slightly different shade of orange. Hasbro lead designer Bill Rawley commented at BotCon 2010 that these must have been paint-assignment errors.

Highly poseable with 39 deco ops, this Ultra Magnus R.E.D. figure was designed to bring collectors our most screen-accurate version of the character to display on their shelf. The dependable Autobot soldier inspired by the 1986 G1 toy release features 28 points of articulation. Includes 3 alt hands, blaster and Energon Axe accessories. Hasbro's print advertisement for this figure (featuring Galvatron in combat with Sideswipe) depicts it with the right arm held away from the body and pointing upwards… which is a pose the toy cannot actually assume, short of digital manipulation and/or breaking and creatively gluing the arm. The Mazdaspeed car parts, but with Meister's original head sculpt and left hand, were later used to make the Binaltech-only Argent Meister. In the Transformers Prime show (and other CG produced Transformers series) the Transformers characters had to do a lot of visual cheating when they transformed. Parts had to disappear and essentially "morph" into vehicle mode bits. When the toys have to represent those characters, sacrifices are often made for those designs. Since R.E.D. figures do not transform, the designers had an opportunity to create a figure that is very screen accurate, focusing on the look of the CG model and not transformation in its design. To that end, the designers have succeeded to a large degree.

This version of the mold was later redecoed into the original toy's colors for the e-HOBBY-exclusive Galvatron II, with a new speech clip. Transformers R.E.D. figures do not convert, allowing us to enhance the robot mode with a sleek, “kibble-free” form
