About this deal

The desire in this book for wealth and Luxury overshadows Julia’s love of creativity and art. It makes me beg the question whether her true passion lies with design or simply with eating oysters in Paris. I’m sure this was never the intention Julia had when putting pen to paper. It repeats so many unimportant facts. I was so anxious to read this book because I wanted know how she made it from a very closed life to running a huge company. There was so much about an ex lover Lucas and nothing about her meeting and marrying the man she chose. How did that change her life and how it ended in separation/divorce. That was what was presented in her show and that’s how most of us know her. It’s a shame that as a woman who keeps talking about her freedom she buried the lead. A very long 20 hours of her telling a story to her kids because I didn’t care. Yes it’s very true that once I hit mid-30s and became more modern Orthodox," Haart said. "I slowly started giving myself more exposure to the outside world. But you have to understand exposure to the outside – it's like you watching a documentary on whales, like watching another world. That was still me, nose pressed against the glass. Looking at the bakery inside but never tasting the croissant."

Hendler appears in various episodes and in some ways steals the season finale. He is seen having sensitive discussions with his children and Julia about a range of family and religious topics. This summer, one could have spent all their time reading reaction pieces to My Unorthodox Life, Netflix’s reality show following Julia Haart’s journey from Jewish frummie (slang for observant) to fashion mogul. Julia Haart is a hustler. Her story is an inspiring, believe-in-your-dreams, never-give-up, anything-in-life-is-possible story of hope. She is a very smart businesswoman who also loves women! Run, don’t walk, to get this book!” —Lisa RinnaAn irresistible read . . . Written with great intensity and rare candor, Brazen is a story of longing for more and manifesting that vision.”—Tommy Hilfiger Within a week of leaving her old life behind, Julia started a shoe brand and within nine months she was in Paris for fashion week. A year later, she became creative director of La Perla, the world-leading lingerie brand. And now, she is the co-owner and c.e.o. of Elite World Group, and one of the most powerful people in the fashion industry.” Either way, once Julia was engaged to Yosef, she had her kallah classes [bridal preparation courses] and he had his chatan classes [bridgroom preparation courses]. Unfortunately, both of them were taught by the most stringent possible people, people who taught chumras [stringencies] as halakha [objective Jewish law]. In Julia’s words Aron resides in Monsey with his dad and attends a co-ed yeshiva. The teen has remained observant, but appeared at one pointmore observant than his Orthodox upbringing. He continues to lead an Orthodox life; last week, Julia mentioned the family was going to a kosher steakhouse for dinner because Aron was joining them.

And despite the surprise success of Shtislaround the world years after it ended in Israel, a fourth season is not in the making. But an American adaptation is. And, according to its synopsis, about a modern secular woman who falls in love with an ultra-Orthodox man and uproots her life for him – is exactly the show that many haters of My Orthodox Life proposed. (Except, it’s scripted.) ‘SHTISEL’ HAS become an international sensation (credit: RONEN AKERMAN/YES) The inherent message of this story is that a woman should let herself go in rags, almost starve, and sacrifice her own happiness and well-being in the service of her husband, so that he can become a great Torah scholar. Not that the woman herself has the capacity to become a great Torah scholar. Not that he can achieve her own greatness. It is only greatness by proxy. You’re the doormat that the great man gets to stand on, and the more you can remove any concept of self- the more you can make yourself nothing more than a receptacle- the better a woman you are. That was the role model that girls ingested from the moment they were old enough to understand a story. There were thousands of stories like this that every girl was taught, over and over, throughout their lives. That route was the only route to goodness, to success as a human being for a woman. She could never hope to achieve personal goals or greatness. She could never have the throne. She had to be the one to clean the throne and prepare the throne and be the step stool for her husband. That was what they inculcated their daughters with. A constant barrage of brainwashing. It works incredibly well.

painted two bright streaks of hot neon pink across my perfectly lovely nineteen-year-old skin, and my eyes were covered in so much green eyeshadow that it was difficult to blink. When she was done, I looked at myself in the mirror. I might not have had much exposure to fashion magazines or movies, but it didn’t take a genius to know I looked ridiculous. Between the puffy-sleeved, petticoated gown and the bizarre face paint, I looked like a mad Wes Craven version of a child bride. I couldn’t contain my dismay. From the star of the Netflix reality series My Unorthodox Life, a riveting, inspiring memoir of one woman’s escape from an extremist religious sect and an extraordinary rise from housewife to shoe designer, to CEO and co-owner of the modeling agency Elite World Group Propulsive and unforgettable, Haart’s story is the journey from a world of no to a world of yes, and an inspiration for women everywhere to find their freedom, their purpose, and their voice.
