About this deal

Use up to 14 days for soft tissue injuries, like sprains or strains, unless indicated otherwise by your doctor. As soon as your pain subsides, stop using Voltarol Max Strength Pain Relief 2.32% Gel. If your pain or swelling does not improve within 7 days, or if it gets worse, please consult your doctor. The concomitant use of Voltarol with systemic NSAIDs including cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitors should be avoided due to the absence of any evidence demonstrating synergistic benefits and the potential for additive undesirable effects (see section 4.5 Interactions with other medicaments and other forms of interaction).

Gastrointestinal bleeding (haematemesis, melaena) ulceration or perforation which can be fatal has been reported with all NSAIDs including diclofenac and may occur at any time during treatment, with or without warning symptoms or a previous history of serious GI events. They generally have more serious consequences in the elderly. If gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration occurs in patients receiving diclofenac, the drug should be withdrawn. Voltarol is a nonsteroidal agent with marked analgesic/anti- inflammatory properties. It is an inhibitor of prostaglandin synthetase, (cyclo-oxygenase). Allergic conditions have been reported for ocular reactions such as conjunctival hyperaemia, allergic conjunctivitis, eyelid erythema, oedema, and pruritus, and systemic hypersensitivity reactions such as urticaria, rash, eczema, erythema, pruritus, cough and rhinitis. Other side effects which may occur are usually mild, passing and harmless (if you are concerned, tell a doctor or pharmacist).

Patients with congestive heart failure (NYHA-I) or patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events (e.g. hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking) should only be treated with diclofenac after careful consideration. The Emulgel technology is a unique combination of a gel and cream, which is white in colour and has no strong odour. Alongside this, Voltarol gel has a clinically proven triple effect; it relieves pain, reduces inflammation, and so helps speed up healing, making it an effective pain reliever for knee pain.

Voltarol should only be used under medical advice during breastfeeding as diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts. However, this medicine should not be applied on the breasts of nursing mothers nor elsewhere on large areas of skin or for a prolonged period of time. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for further information if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. are allergic (hypersensitive) to diclofenac or other medicines used to treat pain, fever or inflammation, such as ibuprofen or aspirin (a substance also used to prevent blood clotting), or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (see Section 6 and end of Section 2). If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include: wheezing or shortness of breath (asthma); skin rash with blisters or hives; swelling of the face or tongue; runny nose. Over-the-counter Voltarol gels are applied to your skin over the affected area. They contain diclofenac, a powerful and effective NSAID, which is absorbed into the skin. The Voltarol range of topical painrelief gels are targeted at the point of pain to relieve aches and pains, and so helps speed up recovery. Children and adolescents: There are insufficient data on efficacy and safety available for the children and adolescents below 14 years of age (see also contraindications section 4.3). In children aged 14 years and over, if this product is required for more than 7 days for pain relief or if the symptoms worsen the patient/parents of the adolescent is/are advised to consult a doctor. There are no data available on the use of topical formulations of diclofenac and its effects on fertility in humans.

Voltarol may reversibly inhibit platelet aggregation (see anticoagulants in section 4.5 Interaction with other medicaments and other forms of interactions). Patients with defects of haemostasis, bleeding diathesis or haematological abnormalities should be carefully monitored. Joints form the connections between our bones and allow us to move. A number of conditions can cause joint pain. Whilst our Voltarol over-the-counter products (available without prescription) cannot treat all these conditions, it’s good to be aware of them so you can talk to your doctor or healthcare professional about them. These include: Methotrexate: Diclofenac can inhibit the tubular renal clearance of methotrexate hereby increasing methotrexate levels. Caution is recommended when NSAIDs, including diclofenac, are administered less than 24 hours before treatment with methotrexate, since blood concentrations of methotrexate may rise and the toxicity of this substance be increase. Cases of serious toxicity have been reported when methotrexate and NSAIDs including diclofenac are given within 24 hours of each other. This interaction is mediated through accumulation of methotrexate resulting from impairment of renal excretion in the presence of the NSAID.
