Featuring an illustration of Buddha under the Bodhi Tree for children to colour in, this resource is perfect to use to support your teaching on Buddhism in RE lessons. You could use this resource at the beginning of the topic to prompt a class discussion and see what children already know about the Bodhi Tree, and then use it at the end of the topic to help decorate a display area in your classroom or learning space. This lovely colouring sheet features a lotus flower, the national flower symbol of India. It also holds religious significance. The Lotus Flower has been a long-standing symbol in Buddhism.

Engage children with digital learning

This worksheet is a fantastic follow-up activity to our Buddhist Temples PowerPoint, full of interesting facts all about Buddhism Places of Worship. It’s also a great way to assess your class’ knowledge and understanding of Buddhist temples. Can they correctly label the important elements inside the temple? What do they know about each item? What other resources can I use to teach children about Buddhism? According to a 2009 Gallup article, 82% of people worldwide believe that religion plays an integral part in their daily lives. Finally, we all want the same thing - meaning and purpose, we just go about it differently. And studying the world's religions is an excellent way to facilitate compassion and empathy regarding these differences. Our collection of KS1 Buddhism resources has been designed and curated specifically to help you teach your children about world religions in a way that is engaging and easy to understand. Teach children the story of Buddha, with our The Story of The Buddha PowerPoint. This would be the perfect introduction to learning all about Buddhism.

There are different ways of celebrating the holiday. Often the festivities begin with a good "spring clean" and homes are freshened up and decorated. In the morning, Buddhists visit their temples and give offerings to the monks of food, candles and flowers. There is chanting and praying, incense, music and colour. There may be exciting parades through the streets. The Lotus Sutra is also an important text for Buddhists in the Mahayana branch of the faith. Why is this flower the national flower in India? By colouring this template, children engage with the national and religious significance of this flower whilst doing something creative. They could put finished projects on display and annotate the flower with key facts they've learnt. The horizontal stripes represent the harmony between the races of the world and the vertical stripes are to represent eternal world peace. It influenced, among other things, the way we talk, how we write, how we view other people, the holidays we celebrate and how we mark our seasons. This flower is thought to represent the purity and peace of speech, body and mind. When depicted on dirty water and floating, it expresses this quality to be above and beyond the waters underneath: physical desires and material attachment. What's more, colouring will help children to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and their ability to recognise different shapes and colours.
