About this deal

The water and dust-resistant U6 LR can be mounted either indoors or outside, blending seamlessly into virtually any environment so you'll never have to disrupt your space's aesthetic to enjoy excellent wireless coverage. This means that you can use the covers from the nanoHD on the new U6 lite which is great when it comes to placing the access point insight. Also, given that the UniFi 6 LR Access Point is connected to a network using Gigabit Ethernet then the maximum throughput achievable from the UniFi 6 LR is obviously the maximum throughput achievable through Gigabit Ethernet, which is about 940 Mbps, as described in our article What is a Good Signal Level or Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) for Wi-Fi? With no obstructions, you will see a 6 dB drop in signal strength every time you double your distance from the router. The U6-LR and AC-HD are on equal footing in this test, both offering 3 spatial streams and up to 1300 Mbps data rates to the 3x3 MacBook.

I just wanted to compare the old access points with the new Unifi WiFi 6 access points in a real world scenario. Using 5 GHz at close range, the U6-Lite and U6-LR are faster than Wi-Fi 5 access points by around 10-20%. It’s quite big (and heavy), but as you can see in the tests, it has an amazing throughput, even through brick walls. There’s only one non-overlapping 40 MHz channel in North America, and the rest of the world only has two. There is also the need for WiFi 6 client devices and make no mistake, we’re nowhere near mass adoption. The panty is located roughly in the middle of the house (next to our stairs) and surrounded by sand-lime bricks. The Ubiquiti U6-Pro is part of the sixth generation of UniFi access points and that’s because it was released a bit later than the U6-LR and the U6-Lite, not that it may have a multi-Gigabit port or any other ‘exotic’ feature. So, you want to improve your Wi-Fi signal and you keep hearing access points pop up all over the place as a solution. This is a more even playing field, and the U6-LR and AC-HD rightfully pull ahead due to their 4x4 MIMO radios.

I understand the push towards using PoE more since it’s so convenient, but I would have still wanted the option to power up the access point via a power cable. The Wi-Fi 5 models maxed out at a 867 Mbps data rate, while the U6-Lite and U6-LR top out at 1200 Mbps. This chart also shows how the same 20 MHz channel width (combined with a 3rd spatial stream) can push more data over 5 GHz. Wondering if you set the site location to US…if you select Eu countries you will not get the full Tx power.
