About this deal

What strikes the viewer initially is the full force of Cardiff's drinking culture, the sheer spectacle of this weekend ritual of excess. There are a lot of horizontal people in these pictures, a lot of bare flesh on show. The skirts tend to be short, the heels high – and that sometimes goes for the men as well as the women. You will see women having their breasts felt and men with their trousers around their ankles. There is, inevitably, some blood, a lot of sweat and more than a few tears. There is vomit and violence and there is litter. So much litter. Nathalie Belayche. "Street Photography Now Takes Over Paris". Food for your Eyes . Retrieved 23 March 2016. Dakowicz was born in 1976 in Bialystok, Poland. He came to Cardiff from Hong Kong in 2004, to work and study at the University of Glamorgan for a PhD in computer science, which he obtained in 2010. That same year, he opened the Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff with his friend and fellow photographer, Joni Karanka.

An experimental study and time series analysis of the Cardiff Model for Violence Prevention 28 Setting However, it is not all outrageousness and vulgarity: Dakowicz also catches the sense of camaraderie and celebration in Cardiff on a Saturday night. He has an outsider's eye for telling detail, a way of showing us, in often brilliantly dramatic fashion and with a degree of gleeful humour, what is right under our noses.

Howells through the ages: The changing face of the Cardiff landmark that's been going for 150 years I met a University of South Wales (USW) student who was Muslim and asked him: 'How could Muslims do this? Atlanta, CDC Since these pictures were taken, Maciej’s photos have been widely published, exhibited and shown at festivals. On closer observation, though, Dakowicz's work evades this kind of reductive appraisal. The photographs in this book are loud, the behaviour they show often vulgar. The more you look, though, the more you glimpse a certain collective doggedness in this wild pursuit of pleasure and abandonment, a doggedness that suggests much deeper discontent. The decisive moment is one of the key concepts of photography and the ingredient of most successful street photos. It is a sort of apogee, the exact moment when something happens. The timing is crucial. If you miss it, it will never happen again. However, this moment has to be captured in an aesthetic way, so it is clearly defined and visible, then it is a decisive moment. Capture moments, but do it well. Contributed Studio for the Arts". Emergency Medicine Journal 27: 125-128 Multiagency groups, learning from the Model also shows, need to have strong links with the agencies they comprise, not least so that proposals to disinvest in posts key to multiagency work can be forestalled. Cuts in local authority funding in Cardiff after the 2008 economic downturn led to more than one proposal to disinvest in a crucial data analyst post; retaining this was achieved through the Local Service Board. More damagingly, without reference to the Violence Prevention Board, the University Hospital dispensed with the nurse post responsible for identifying and supporting people injured in violence in domestic settings. This gap in provision was eventually filled with an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor, funded by the South Wales Police Commissioner. A night out in Southampton has turned into a night in A&E for one young woman who has just been admitted with a head injury. “She had been at a party and fell and hit her head. There was alcohol and drugs,” said nurse Catherine Chipande. The Cardiff Model described in this report exemplifies the public health approach to violence prevention. This approach has four steps. Step one involves systematically collecting data on the magnitude, characteristics, and consequences of violence. Step two involves conducting research to establish the factors that increase or decrease the risk for violence. Step three uses information from steps one and two to design, implement and evaluate interventions. Step four entails scaling up and implementing interventions shown in step three to be effective, and widely disseminating prevention information. Careful reading of this excellent report on the Cardiff Model shows how elegantly the process of developing the model has demonstrated the value of each step, and the power of all four in combination. At the same time a few miles down the road 35 year-old John Smith was seeking out Muslims but for different reasons. Most people say that street photography features people photographed in public places in candid, un-posed situations. In my opinion this definition is too broad as it includes portraiture, travel or editorial photography, which might have nothing to do with the genre. Thus, the definition can be refined to define proper street photography by adding just one word – a “twist”. A little twist – something clever, funny, unexpected, surprising or ambiguous. Something making you scratch your head, putting a smile on your face or simply making you say “wow, nice”. So you can also say that street photography can turn ordinary things or situations into extraordinary through the act of photographing them. A street photo does not have to be taken literally in the street – it can be shot indoors, on the beach or in the forest, at any place where photographers can take candid, unposed pictures. But what matters is that little “twist” elevating the photo to a different level. Unfortunately, these twists do not come often. So I don’t call myself a street photographer. I am just a photographer who sometimes manages to take a street photograph. She’ll be here for two or three hours while she gets herself together,” said Martin. “We’ll get her to drink water, observe her and keep her warm. Then we’ll make sure she gets home safely.
