Next up we chopped some hazelnuts, using the manual pulse setting. In just 20 seconds the nuts were finely chopped. Some had been over chopped and turned into powder, but overall, we were happy with the result. To try out the blending capabilities of the Ninja Foodi Blender & Soup Maker, we first made a smoothie. We liquidized pine apple, spinach, banana, yogurt and apple juice using the preset smoothie program. It took 45 seconds and at the end we did spot a few tiny pieces of spinach that hadn’t been completely broken down. But otherwise, the smoothie was the perfect texture, with a smooth mouthfeel and no obvious fibrous pieces that hadn’t been liquidized. All the Auto-IQ programs use automated patterns of pulsing and pausing over a pre-set time to create the perfect results. But if you prefer to have more control, there's a manual blend setting with the option for low, medium, or high speed as well as pulse. There’s also a manual cook setting where you can choose between low, medium, or high heat. Blending and cooking at the same time, it lets you enjoy chunky and smooth soups, fresh sauces and home-made jams in as little as 20 minutes. The built-in heating element cooks fresh ingredients rapidly, and to perfection, while the auto-stir function keeps your food moving to ensure it’s cooked thoroughly and evenly before you serve it straight from the jug. A robust blender that can also make hot soup

There are also two manual programmes (Blend and Cook, both with Low, Medium and High settings), so those who know exactly how they like their soups, sauces and desserts can take complete control from start to finish. On test, this model scored full marks for both smooth and chunky soup. It easily made a smooth and creamy tomato soup with a deep, rich flavour. This was despite following a vegan recipe and having only been cooked for 30 minutes. The results were just as good on our chunky butternut squash test. It here cooked all the vegetables to near perfection – they retained their colour, were full of flavour and still had a slight bite. We also appreciated that there's the option for cold blending. It produced a velvety banana milkshake, a creamy batter for deep frying and breadcrumbs. Take note
