About this deal

Applying science to the problems of human relationships, the perils of perfectionism and the pitfalls of social etiquette, Millie has written a joyous, funny and hugely insightful text for all of us - whether neurotypical or neurodiverse. I think I wouldn't have minded this book as much if I had known that it was essentially going to be a self-help/memoir. autorka bada zachowania ludzi podając za przykłady różne badania lub działania, oparte na biologicznych, fizycznych i chemicznych reakcjach.

For example, the 16 different personality types defined in Myers-Briggs, which doesn’t have a great rep these days anyway, gets over-simplified by analogy to less than a handful of protein types. Since my parents felt they were superior to our neighbors, such an explanation was in line with my family’s attitude. In eleven brief but science-laden chapters, Pang presents convincing evidence that much of our world can be understood from the perspective of tiny molecules, particle waves, and the laws of thermodynamics. If you adore reading descriptions of scientific terms and are on the spectrum, then this is the book for you! She decided she wanted to publish her writing “during a panic attack on the commute”, and did a “sprint Google” to find out how to go about it.My sense is that the author intuitively understood those links but failed to grasp how best to enable others to do so. I thought I was, since I am the parent of an adult daughter with Asperger's Syndrome and the author is also on the spectrum and only a few years older than my daughter.

Can’t believe some of these reviews, how can you complain about a book not being what you thought it was when you haven’t made the effort to read the description? The application of science to the problems of human relationships is refreshing, Millie doesn’t use scientific jargon — instead, she explains scientific concepts in layman terms to link to the perils of perfectionism and the pitfalls of social etiquette.

Când două personalități umane reușesc să conlucreze într-un mod care le ajută să se ridice la un nivel la care nu ar fi ajuns niciodată singure, înseamnă că au aceeași „frecvență de rezonanță”. Some examples - waves can constructively or destructively interfere, which is like how people can jive or clash with each other; the different wavelengths present in white light are like how you can have different overlapping emotions in a situation; the fact that different proteins work together shows that people should embrace their differences; etc. She landed an agent quickly, and a book deal with Penguin, with Explaining Humans released at the start of the first lockdown. However, it seems like she battles through life with an air of adventure and positivity, so, if you’ve ever felt like you’ve been born on the wrong planet, you may find this book rather uplifting. Probability and estimates are a better way to navigate uncertain human relationships rather than making assumptions at the beginning.
