He mainly likes to put them in his mouth but we’re getting to the point where we’re able to read and interact with them.Many books claim to be tactile in nature when, in fact, the illustrations differ so slightly from the base page that the descriptor is almost a lie. Innovative silicone touches feature throughout the book, with a different texture for children to explore on every spread. The text on the left side of the page has different fonts and colors and is just as vivid as the critter it describes. I liked the rhymes and thought it would be a good baby book as well as a good book to start learning how to read with should it last that long.
Not so with this terrific series that has a boldly colored animal on the right side of every page with a large section of that creature containing a contrasting color of distinctively bumpy, swirly, and/or striated rubbery-ness. My Friday Favorites are things that enrich my life and make my life easier, exciting, or generally happy. Story is meh (I feel defiant about all these no animal touching statements 🤣) but the silicone textures are great. My youngest daughter loves the book and has me go through it at least three or four times before moving on. With the recent spate of Jurassic World books, where are the new dinosaur books for the little ones?My 2 month old loves it and gets a kick out of the noise that the spines on the front of the book make when I run my fingers on it. Stuart Lynch’s bright illustrations will engage little ones, and the handy box will keep the books together. Children will love reading the silly rhymes that tell them why they should never touch the dinosaurs, bugs and other animals . We may have been the very first family to borrow this from the library, because all the pages were incredibly clean.
At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. Children will love reading the funny rhyme that warns of the dangers of touching a dinosaur and then ignoring the advice! It was a hit with my daughter when she was into textures (all animal in the book have rubberized textures: feathers, quills, etc.I would suggest doing a whole lesson on different types of dinosaurs and reading this book as part of it. I do wish there was just a bit more to the story but there are a lot of days that I really appreciate the brevity.
The 2 year old I read it to enjoyed it and got the joke - she laughed as she touched each of the dinosaurs! It would be a rather good change of pace for those younglings that like to touch what they are reading (perhaps, especially those with sensory needs). Our collection includes Never Touch a Dragon, Never Touch a Porcupine, Never Touch a Shark, Never Touch the Dinosaurs, Never Touch a Monster, and Never Touch a Tiger.
We purchased this book for my 10 month old daughter and she is obsessed with the textures on the pages of this book, and especially the cover.
