About this deal

If Lecter likes the Meditations, he reads Seneca. In his short but very powerful letter, the stoic philosopher tells us that we will soon perish into nothingness (maybe this very day). The only thing we can do is to do “good”, and arm ourselves with philosophy, to meet death with tranquility. As I said before, Hannibal has his version of morality where he considers “eating the rude” as making a positive contribution to the world. On the surface, he looks like a materialist but is not at all affected when he’s deprived of his possessions – something Stoics would approve of (yet they would object to his constant thirst for pleasure). 14. Sigmund Freud – Civilization and Its Discontents

The novel was a great success. Children's novelist Roald Dahl greatly enjoyed the novel, describing it as "subtle, horrific and splendid, the best book I have read in a long time". Author David Foster Wallace used the book as part of his curriculum while teaching at Pomona College and later included the book, as well as Harris's Red Dragon, on his list of ten favorite novels. [2] John Dunning says of Silence of the Lambs: [it is] "simply the best thriller I've read in five years". [3] In 2005, comedian-musicians Jon and Al Kaplan parodied the story, especially the film, in Silence! The Musical. It premiered Off-Off-Broadway and has since had productions in London and Los Angeles. [ citation needed] In 2012, the Los Angeles production won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards for Score, Lead Performance, and Choreography. [10] Series adaptation [ edit ]In the famous scene from The Silence of the Lambs, you can notice that Lecter is a huge fan of Bach – especially the Goldberg Variations (named after the possible first performer of these compositions). In the TV series, we can also see Hannibal playing the beautiful aria on his antique harpsichord. As a sitting member of the Baltimore Philharmonic Orchestra’s board of directors, he must have Gardiner’s monumental work on Bach somewhere in his library. 10. Judith Testa – An Art Lover’s Guide to Florence Lecter does not pertain to a certain individual or specific person as Red Dragon stated. Lecter is a pure psychopath as claimed on the movie The Silence of the Lambs; however, he was regarded as a sociopath on the novel version. He was traumatized in Lithuania in 1944 when he witnessed a tragic death of his beloved younger sister, Mischa, by murder and cannibalism. A witness also says that Lecter abruptly ate his sister as well. His addiction to pathology grew after this event. A series called Clarice, which was created by Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman, aired on CBS in 2021. The series takes place three years after the events of the 1991 film adaptation of the novel, and it stars Rebecca Breeds as Clarice Starling. [11] [12] It was canceled after one season. The entire series is based on a psychopath Doctor named Hannibal Lecter, who ironically, practiced psychiatry himself. Over the series one can see that Dr. Lecter is has a complex and organised mind. He continues his practice of psychiatry with brilliance while he himself shows Cannibalism. He is popularly known as Hannibal the Cannibal. Ummm... Yeah u read it right... He eats humans... Apart from that he is a charming gentleman. . Clarice': Rebecca Breeds Cast in the Title Role of CBS' 'Silence of the Lambs' Sequel Pilot". 26 February 2020.

Despite his brutal nature, he was adamant in social graces, frowning on discourtesy and rudeness. To those who treated him with respect, he extended the courtesy. This was true with Barney, his caregiver in Baltimore. Barney was firm but fair and always treated him with respect. After his escape, Lecter sent Barney a generous tip and a "thank you" note for the decency he was shown at the hospital, and promised not to harm him. He was also fond of Sammie, the man who replaced Miggs in the next cell, showing him kindness and sympathy despite Sammie's crime and fragile mental state. The second appearance of Hecter was on the novel Silence of the Lambs where he assisted an FBI agent in catching a known serial killer. Silence of the Lambs was also a novel by Thomas Harris which was first published in 1988. The novel also featured Lecter along with special agent Clarice Starling. This novel was awarded by Bram Stoker Award as Best Novel in 1988 and was also nominated on 1989 as World Fantasy Award. Hecter also appeared on the novel Hannibal. He was portrayed as a museum curator and had an alias of Dr. Fell.
