Green Medicine: Challenging the Assumptions of Conventional Health Care

Our results indicate that GPs and NBOs perceive and express some common and distinct constraints to green prescribing. Often during the ACP process a person elects to appoint a substitute decision maker, and they may also decide to formally document their future treatment wishes. To be effective, green prescriptions must be part of a systemic approach to incorporating nature-based interventions and nature-based thinking in urban infrastructure, says Professor Anna Jorgensen, Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture at Sheffield University. Although majority of the sectors were forerunners in green-agile implementation, the healthcare sector has been fast catching up, where agility and green practices show promises and lots of scope. Green medicine is about building bridges; it is not a movement designed to disparage conventional medicine.

Generally speaking ACP will commence with an individual reflecting on his or her values, beliefs, understanding his or her current and future treatment options determining their goals of care and discussing these with others, such as family and doctors. Medicine that is cleaner, less polluting, more renewable, safer, and more accessible to people is essential to the needs of our growing population. In this study, we conducted a socioecological exploration of the green prescribing health intervention model in the UK. This suggests that the availability of greenspaces and NBOs could be important for green prescribing provision, but there could be greater opportunities in less deprived areas. LSOAs are boundary areas containing an average population of approximately 1500 and up to 1000 in data zones.One model views the human body, brain and nervous system as the most complex receiver, transducer, and transmitter of energies in the known physical universe.
