About this deal

Years of austerity that had widened the gap between the haves and have-nots were manifested on empty streets occupied by rough sleepers and bored teenagers. Northumberland Road, still held by Malone and Grace is under a full frontal assault. Soldiers are supported by machine gun fire from the tower of Haddington Road Church. Full collection available in the National Library of Ireland) Shadow Spirit, at Flinders Street Station, represents Rising's other key contemporary art investment: an exhibition featuring 14 new, specially-commissioned works by 30 First Peoples artists and collectives from around the country, on the topic of spirits and otherworldly beings, and the systems of knowledge they embody. British troops again try to take rebel positions on North King Street, again they fail. In fierce fighting the British make several attempts throughout the afternoon to dislodge the rebels in Langan’s Pub. Casualty numbers on both sides are growing. According to data published from the Office for National Statistics, in 2018/19, two-thirds (61%) of all change of use applications made to local authority planning departments were to change the use of shops to another type of business. The combination of the fires and the heavy shelling means that rebel held buildings such as the Imperial Hotel and Clery’s will have to be abandoned. The census collection is designed so that each group of postcodes should contain at least 100 people (50 in Scotland). The rebels are surrounded at Moore Street and various other positions around the city. The British seem content to wait out the night, and the firing across the city has diminished. Fighting does continue around North King Street where the British are still trying to take rebel-held positions. In two days of constant fighting the British have managed to take only 150 yards of the street and have lost 11 men with a further 32 wounded. The Crisis in British Journalism Byline Times investigates media monopolies, their proximity to politicians, and how the punditocracy doesn’t hold power to account pm: Surrender negotiations are now underway on Moore St with O’Farrell emerging again from Moore St, accompanied this time by Pádraig Pearse. They meet with Brigadier General Lowe to discuss terms. All worked at Louth Dairy in that house, found dead in basement with wounds to the head and throat areas)

Rosefeldt is wise to the ironies of his project, and they may even be part of a larger point. He has, after all, said that Euphoria examines the seductiveness of 'growth' doctrines such as capitalism — systems we can't seem to quit, despite mounting evidence of their toxicity. But for some, his pill will be harder to swallow precisely because of its sweetness. Loading... This paper explores vitality, viability and resilience within urban retailing systems, focusing on the role played by both change of use and greater use diversity in developing adaptive capacity. The retailing centres of five case study cities, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hull, Liverpool, and Nottingham, are examined over a twenty-year period using original databases on property use and geospatial mapping techniques to employ land use richness and diversity metrics in a novel manner. Overall, the analysis finds land use richness has generally risen as comparison retailing and financial services have contracted, to be replaced by hospitality, leisure, and residential uses. However, this re-balancing has not been even across retailing centres and is outstripped by rising vacancies. The study also reveals spatial variation in change of use and use diversity and richness as retailing centres slowly adapt, implying that future policymaking should focus on creating more resilient, mixed use city centres as an alternative to the single use retail high streets of the past. Sunday, then – that calls for a roast beef dinner with Yorkshire puds and loads of gravy at the Jam Jar. It’s another great venue in this area of Swansea, and they too have all sorts going on, from quizzes to live comedy to live performances.

am: Rebel troops begin to reorganize with men and guns sent to those who are struggling to maintain control of their operational centers. The Volunteers in Westland Row train station are hard-pressed and, so, a sortie of rebels on bicycles speeds away from Jacob’s factory in the direction of St. Stephen’s Green to help out. As a non-institutional venue, the Flinders Street Station space (which hosted Patricia Piccinini's exhibition A Miracle Constantly Repeated, part of Rising in 2021 and 2022) appealed to her on several levels. Inside 16 Moore Street the leaders discuss whether to continue fighting or seek surrender terms. Pearse records that by a majority vote the leaders decided to seek surrender terms to prevent further slaughter of the civilian population. It is possible that Paddy Bealin was a Volunteer as, alone among the 15 men killed on North King Street, he is listed in the IRA Roll of Honour, ‘The Last Post’, though Mrs O’Rourke his employer insisted he had taken no part in the fighting.

Fighting is intense around North King Street. The British troops are using armoured cars in an attempt to take the rebel positions. All their attempts fail, and the rebels hold their positions. Ceannt leaves the South Dublin Union and surrenders. Forty minutes later he has his men fall in, and they are marched away. En route they gather Colbert and his men from Marrowbone Lane. An Australian War Memorial collection photograph shows him with the AIF in South England when he still held the position of Major General. Although they lost three men in the first volley and further men as they were repelled a number of times, eventually the superior numbers of the British Army succeeded and the small rebel force surrendered. The Sherwood Foresters enter Northumberland and come under intense fire. Michael Malone and James Grace are fortified inside 25 Northumberland Road and can fire freely at the advancing troops. Within minutes there are a large number of dead and injured troops on the street. The fighting has ceased in the Northumberland Road area. It has taken nearly nine hours for the Sherwood Foresters to advance the 300 yards from 25 Northumberland Road to Clanwilliam House. Five rebels have died in the fighting, four have been arrested and a remaining five have evaded arrest. The British put over 1,500 men onto the street during the day and four officers and 216 other ranks have been killed or seriously wounded.

The casket, borne on a gun carriage from the 6th Auxiliary Horse Transport, proceeds to the grave side accompanied by six Major Generals and Warrant Officer Instructors who acted as pall bearers,” the caption said. People smashed store windows and set off fireworks, turning the night air acrid. Loud bangs echoed across the city. When asked why they were there, members of the crowd threatened journalists and claimed the media were not telling the truth about immigration.I loved being outside as a child – the views make me feel as if I am,’ says Tyrese Mhlakaza of his home on the 53rd floor of Ponte City in Johannesburg. Photograph: Kent Andreasen for the Guardian But things are on the up. Swansea Council is saving the iconic, Grade II listed building The Palace: at the top end of the street, it’s being transformed into a workspace for businesses in the tech, digital and creative sectors. More shops and cafes have opened, and more are being encouraged to do so. Local businesses are doing their part, too, in highlighting this regeneration. Last weekend venues came together and organised an event: Swansea’s High Street Rising, four days of music art, comedy and more spread over five venues. In their own words: The 6th Reserve Cavalry moves into the Phibsboro area and two hours later have largely secured the area. British troops have been moved into positions across the city and an effective British cordon around rebel positions in the city is complete.
