About this deal

Follow up table activity resources for every session that children can complete independently or in groups for their writing books. Generate some other questions like the opening question “Does your (adjective, noun) need a (noun)?” The ten lessons in this unitgive children the opportunity to understand the features of instructions as a text type and create their owninstructionaltexts. In English this week, we have focused on the story ‘How to wash a woolly mammoth’. We have written our own instructions, with illustrations, on how to wash a BIG animal. The children have really enjoyed this story and had lots of fun exploring with silly instructions. If you would like to continue this skill at home, we would love your child to share some written instructions from home. Maybe they can help make dinner, build an adventure park or wash a pet. How do you keep clean? Why is it important? Make a poster to teach others how to stay clean and healthy.

In the second week, pupils will use drama to develop ideas and extend their vocabulary. They will then plan their own set of instructions about washing a woolly mammoth and they will then have the opportunity to draft, edit and present their final written outcome. This genuinely hilarious book is brilliantly simple, based on the idea that the author-illustrator can only draw very childlike worms. Highly recommended. Make an animated retelling of the story or an animated challenge based on the book. Here is an example: Write a set of instructions for how to wash another animal using imperative verbs and numbered steps.

Tasks linked to adverbials and imperative verbs for children to complete at tables in groups or independently after carpet/whole class session. The above video may be from a third-party source. We accept no responsibility for any videos from third-party sources. Please let us know if the video is no longer working. In Science, we will continue to build on our knowledge of our bodies but with a focus on using our ears to hear.

This scheme of work is designed for LKS2 and has differentiated planning, resources and SMART notebooks to support a really enjoyable unit. In the first week, children will engage with the text'How to Wash aWoolly Mammoth' through research, a hands-on toy washing challenge and the opportunity to create their own ‘Woolly Mammoth Cleaning Kit’. They will become familiar with the text type of instructions by following instructions to make their own mammoth models and identifying features of the text. There is also a grammar focus on using prepositions and imperative verbs. Which materials would make a good umbrella or coat for step six? Investigate some materials to find out if they are waterproof or not. A boy sits contentedly reading books when Nibbles the monster whizzes in and causes havoc by munching his way through the boy’s beloved books. With flaps to open, peep-holes to peek through and questions to answer, this is fun and interactive. In English next week, we will be focusing on using our imagination to free write. If your child would like to practice here is a picture they could focus on 23.6.23 EnglishThis model text is a set of instructions explaining how to wash a woolly mammoth. It has been written to meet the Year 1 expected standard and comes with a handy annotated version detailing the text-type specific features (red), grammar (green), punctuation (purple) and spelling (blue) teaching opportunities should you wish to use this text with your learners. In Maths, we have been partitioning 2-digit numbers into tens and ones and comparing them. If you would like to continue at home, here is a sheet 23.6.23 At the end of the week children are equiped to complete writing which will demonstrate that they have the skills to write instructions independently as well as having mastered fronted adverbials and imperative verbs. Hi Ryan, this all looks amazingly helpful to plan lessons from, Could I please ask for the notbook docs to be saved as PPT as I cannot open them :( Thank you so much
