With that in mind, it’s a house that is unlikely to appear on the market anytime soon. (image credit: Estelle Bilson) Estelle Bilson is married to Stephen De Sarasola, a sound engineer. Bilson’s husband is Stretford, Greater Manchester born and bred. Estelle Bilson Bidding Room

I absolutely love kitsch. I'm a bit like a kitsch magpie; anything really random, gold, shiny, multi coloured and the weirder the better. That's why I've got the tiger and Flamingo sculptures. We don't live like it is 1974, but we appreciate the styling, design and quality of build of the furniture. I loved the 70s – and that’s both the 1970s and the 1870s. There’s obviously always something about a decade that starts with a seven that means the design dial is turned to 11; colours get bolder, shapes get badder and style flies its freak flag. So, thank goodness resplendent 70s temptress Estelle Bilson has committed pen to paper so that the world can enjoy her take on the era of soft squares, teak, shag and Artex.”– Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen When people ask me what to look out for, I only ever advocate buying things you love, as at the end of the day you have to live with these pieces,’ says Estelle. Mid Century Modern was a term coined into the vernacular in 1983 by Cara Greenberg with the title of her seminal book, this moniker has become an ionic and global design movement. Focusing on the style of interiors, furniture, architecture, surface print and graphic design from the mid 30s to 60s but has now generally been stretched out to encompass the period of up to 1975, the legacy of these pieces is of enduring design which still looks as fresh and as relevant now as it did then, this is why it works so well with contemporary living and the reason it has become hugely popular. Moses originally worked as an engineer, but he took the leap and went full-time in the antiques trade.

An unworn #LiveAid t-shirt signed by Bob Geldof, Terry Wogan & @NikKershaw is going to auction to raise funds for us. It is truly the t-shirt that helps to save lives, thanks to owners Chris & Estelle 👏 Some structural work was carried out, making the dining room smaller, the kitchen a little bigger, new windows, plastering and landscaping outside. But beyond that, this house is all about decor and interior design. I know. That is stating the obvious somewhat. News Retro-obsessed mum transforms her Stretford home into a spectacular tribute to the 1970s - have a nosey inside

While the scene has been emergent since the turn of the millennium, the 2012 Diamond Jubilee supercharged British nostalgia for the 1950s, says Dr Stella Sims, who wrote her cultural studies doctorate on this wave of “retromania”. It’s the community that I like,” says Estelle Bilson, 41, a technical designer who shares her love of 1970s living with Stephen De Sarasola and their son, and bases her style on a Good Life -era Penelope Keith. “A woman in the States recently sent me a frosted Christmas bauble because she knows it’s the era I’m into, but we’ve never met.” Unfortunately, a lot of original features were ripped out when it was converted from a shop to a house in the 80s, so it was a pretty blank canvas from that respect.’ (image credit: Estelle Bilson)

Many regard the 1970s as the decade that taste forgot. Not Estelle Bilson, though. Her house is a nostalgic homage to the era, filled with glorious original furniture and vintage artefacts. Part interiors guide, part manual for living, this loud-and-proud book will bring not only 70s colour and kitsch to the modern day, but also the rebellious spirit, pure joy and freewheeling energy epitomised by the era. I like to combine modern conveniences with 60s styling. I’ve incorporated automation into the house, so all our lighting themes come on automatically at different times of the day. We have sound systems in every room. I love gadgets. But I make sure they’re all invisible. I don’t want them to change the look of the house, just make it easier to live in. In the early 2010s you got this surge of interest in 1950s fashion and pastimes, from knitting to partner-dancing, cupcake baking and the WI,” she says. “Then the World War One centennial, from 2014-2018, also fed into this.”Surrounded by mainly Georgian and Victorian furniture all my life, by the age of 13 I guess I rebelled somewhat, fascinated by anything from the art deco period of the 20s and 30s, to post war atomic design, through the post-modernist 60s and 70s. Over the past 30 odd years I bought and sold to enhance my own collections, and to upgrade the furniture in our home.
