Recently launched in the UK, the new Yippy highchair from Moji is expensive, but is designed to be part of a family home for years, from birth to adulthood (or up to 14 stones). The extended lifetime and the build quality just about justify the high price. Then, depending on the size and independence of your child, you may want to switch to a booster seat on an adult chair. Many multifunctional and transitional highchairs adjust in height, so you can bring the chair right up to the table. How much does a highchair cost? Big gap between tray and the baby, even in its closest setting – a little inconvenient for mealtimes Most travel highchairs either attach to an adult dining chair as a chair-mounted booster or clip onto the table edge (sometimes called a hook-on or clip-on highchair) like a vice. In both cases, you need suitable furniture to make it work – though, anecdotally, the chair-attaching kind fit more universally than the table-attaching kind. When testing these highchairs, we considered age suitability, size, portability, multi-use, ease of cleaning, weight and whether there's a harness. It can be used with the newborn set from birth, the baby set from six months (sitting unaided) and after three years or 15kg until adulthood and beyond, so it's great if you need a piece of furniture that will last and can be used by every member of the family. We also like that the tray is dishwasher-safe for particularly messy mealtimes! It's expensive but with a thriving second-hand market you should get a high resale value when you're finished with it. The iconic Tripp Trapp highchair was originally launched in 1972 by Peter Opsvik so I was curious to see what has made its 50-year-old design so enduring. After a somewhat frustrating assembly process, I finally got it up and was impressed by how stylish it looked around my kitchen table. It’s also the exact height of the table which none of the other highchairs I tested were – a small but quite important detail.Tejal: The product is fantastic and very versatile. I love that it can be used from birth up to 15kg and it is very easy to use and change once it's set up. My only hesitation in recommending this product as the winner is the price. It is expensive and although it can be used from birth, there are cheaper products on the market which would be more attractive for parents on a budget. Other than the price, I have thoroughly enjoyed using the product.

At the inexpensive end of the spectrum are the budget chairs. The chair is engaging for any baby because of the well-presented toys. Mess after eating is easy to clean away and the chair looks new, even after the messiest of meals. My favourite feature of the product is the recline function, it means no more waking baby after falling asleep.
