About this deal

Build quality– Is it a quality product? A water changer is disposable, but it should be made from durable components and hold up against typical use.

Most fish experts would recommend that you change about a quarter of the total water in the tank once per week. However, changing the water in your tank can be extremely messy and laborious, but not when you have a good water changer but what is the best option? Python water changers get discussed a lot so let’s look closer and see how they compared to other options. Then you just pull the bottom of the ‘pump’ down and turn so it is in siphon mode, and turn the water on. PVC pipe and ‘slip’ Fittings to make your fill / drain device: Your imagination is the only limit here, but basically, you will need pvc pipe, fittings, a valve (optional). I will get into this more below. The most critical piece is an adaptor that connects to the male end of our hose and converts to the appropriate size (in my case, 1/2″) PVC pipe. It will say something like 1/2″ slip x 3/4″ Female Thread Garden Adaptor . The Python No Spill Clean and Fill comes ready right out of the bag and will connect to most faucets and includes; Despite this, the hose that came with the Deep Blue Hydromaxx was perhaps our favorite of all the water changers we tested. No matter how much you kinked, twisted or stomped on the hosing, it returned to its original state in seconds.

The Python Water Changer – How It Works:

Some of it my fault, i didnt realise the tap would need to be constantly running (and at a high pressure too) to keep the water drawing down the pipe, i thought once it was going i could shut the tap off but i guess the pipe length just means that's not possible. So much water wastage - and i'm on a water meter too! Availability of replacement parts– Are replacement parts available? You don’t want to buy an entirely new water changer just because a small piece broke.

So far, I’m hoping that I can use a brass, threaded, 3/4″ T fitting, all female ends, which I plan to attach to the male end of a brass shut off valve ( exactly the same as what you would use for a garden hose). Last week while doing a water change on the Cichlid tank the safety ????thingy did its job perfectly. A large convict cichlid somehow got in the gravel tube but didn’t get near the dangerous end. No tragic accident occurred! Whew!We also liked the design of the handle used to clean and fill the aquarium. Even more so than Python’s. Also, there is not much flexibility in the attachment you put on the aquarium as their kits only come with the gravel vacuum. I don’t have much need to vacuum the gravel in our planted tank and was interested in something smaller that fit the scale of our nano Fluval Spec V. Me? I want to spend as little time maintaining my tank as possible. It leaves me with more time to stare at my lovely little fish. If Lee’s Ultimate Gravel Vac was half the price, we would most likely recommend it as a budget water changer. But given that it’s priced similar to Python, which is a noticeably superior product, there is little reason to recommend it. Marina Aqua Vac Whatever the reason, Python makes the best-constructed and most-durable water changer on the market.
