About this deal

For testing we're using the 5800X3D, though the results will be transferable for all Ryzen 5000 series processors, so if there's no performance difference between B350 and X570, for example, with the 5800X3D, the same will also be true for the Ryzen 5 5600. My 5600x scores 9100 on Timepsy and 25800 on Firestrike physics tests and all I did was give it up to 125 watts (it uses much less in gaming related benchmarks, but sometimes it peaks at 125W) and undervolt by curve optimizer -20 all cores. That's 25% in TS, and 15% more in Firestrike. The motherboard used for testing is the old MSI B350 Tomahawk using the latest BIOS revision based on the AGESA 1.2.0.7 microcode, which enables Resizable BAR along with support for Ryzen 5000 series processors. Then we have 32GB of DDR4-3200 CL14 dual-rank dual-channel memory, and this same configuration was used for testing all Ryzen processors. Moving on to the Far Cry 6, the 7600X enjoys a 10% performance boost using the faster DDR5 memory, while the 13600K delivers similar average frame rate performance regardless of the memory used, though DDR5 did boost 1% lows by 11%.

On average at 1080p, the 5800X3D is ~9% faster than the 12900K, which costs 30% more, and ~7% faster than the Core i9-12900KS, which costs a whopping 64% more. That means the Ryzen 7 58000X3D is now both the fastest gaming chip in our test suite and a better value for gaming specifically than the Core i9 models. Unlike the gaming benchmarks, the productivity benchmarks show that the Ryzen 7 7700X has a massive advantage. It’s easy to conclude that the Ryzen 7 7700X is the superior CPU by a margin for productivity tasks. Temperatures Moreover, if going DDR4, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a better gaming CPU, offering greater performance while costing less. Not only that, but AM4 offers a wide range of motherboards and B550 is typically better than B660 in terms of features and build quality at the same price point. That is to say, if we were trying to get the most gaming performance possible, while spending as little as possible, the 5800X3D is your answer. Even if you want premium performance, the 5800X3D is a viable option as it matched the 13600K using low latency DDR4, and that was when pairing the Core i5 with DDR5-6400. The Riftbreaker is a difficult title for AMD, but the 5800X3D does help, boosting performance by 32% over the original 5800X. This is a great result because using the same DDR4 memory the 5800X3D and 12900K are then comparable in terms of performance. Even with the Radeon 6600 XT installed, we're looking at gains between 90% and 100% at 1080p and even up to 60% at 1440p.

Optimized for Enthusiasts

We know that selecting the right memory for your PC can be overwhelming, with various factors to consider. When it comes to the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor, choosing a compatible memory type that can handle its demands is crucial for optimal performance and reliability. As computer hardware experts, we've evaluated the available RAM options, considering key factors such as speed, capacity, compatibility, and price. Based on our analysis, we'll provide recommendations and weigh the pros and cons of each option to assist you in making an informed decision.

Of course, if you don't have the GPU to unleash the 5800X3D, or you're not interested in using low quality settings, the gains are going to be a lot smaller and we see that with the 6600 XT. That said, heavily CPU bound titles such as ACC or CS:GO will greatly benefit from the upgrade to the 5800X3D regardless. What We Learned The Ryzen 7 7700X also beats out the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in our Adobe Premiere benchmark – by 28.2%, to be exact. Adobe Photoshop 2022 Adobe Photoshop 2021

The Fastest Gaming Processors in the World.¹

GeekBench 5 shows the same pattern as the other productivity benchmarks, with the Ryzen 7 7700X being the better CPU. Handbrake 1.4.2 Benchmarks Handbrake Conversion Test The 3800X3D's code compilation performance was similar to the 5800X. We're looking at a miniscule 1% difference. Let’s take a look at the temperature differences between the two CPUs, under load and idle. Note that the ambient temperature is kept at a constant 25 degrees Celsius. Idle and Load Temperatures (Celsius) Faster DDR4-3800 memory didn't help further though and the 12900KS with DDR5-6400 runs away with it, delivering 12% more performance or a whopping 27% more when looking at the 1% lows.

Watch Dogs: Legion performance was similar regardless of the board used, with at most a 4% performance margin seen between the various AM4 motherboards.Remarkably similar results are seen with the 13600K when going from DDR4 to DDR5 and more importantly, there's virtually no difference between CL14 and CL16 memory, and the same was also true when using the 12600K.

Finally, you might need to switch out your CPU cooling unit for a better one to accommodate 7700X’s thermals. At the same time, you’ll be paying more on your electricity bills due to the significantly higher power draw on the 7700X. This might also lead you to buy a PSU of higher wattage.Max boost for AMD Ryzen processors is the maximum frequency achievable by a single core on the processor running a bursty single-threaded workload. Max boost will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: thermal paste; system cooling; motherboard design and BIOS; the latest AMD chipset driver; and the latest OS updates. GD-150. Then in Far Cry 6, the 12900K was 9% slower which isn't great given total system power usage was 20% higher. The Hitman 3 data is interesting because both CPUs delivered the same level of performance, but the 12900K pushed total system power usage 9% higher. While not always the fastest gaming CPU, the 5800X3D is the more efficient part. 8 Game Average Performance
