About this deal

Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) At just 2.65kg, the GT1080 is both small and light enough to be moved around, and also comes with a carrying case for extra portability. It’s adaptable, too, as it supports both inverted and mirrored projection should you wish to use a ceiling mount or place it behind your projection screen to save space. Each of its feet are adjustable and there’s vertical keystoning to ensure you get a proper rectangular image on to your projection surface regardless of the height the projector is sitting at.

Colour precision, resolution, frame rate and display specifications are all guaranteed by meeting one of the highest HD video standards seen in professional-grade home cinema today: Rec. 709. Instigated by the ITU (International Telecommunication Union), Rec.709 approval means a true cinema-like appearance. The only video inputs available on the GT1080 are a pair of HDMI ports, one of which is compatible with MHL, which means you project your tablet or smartphone’s screen on to a bigger surface. We’d prefer a slightly larger selection of video inputs, and would like a VGA input especially, but given that most modern consumer devices have HDMI outputs, we can just about forgive the omission of other ports. For example, the Gaming preset unsurprisingly works very well for games, making hard-to-spot objects in darkened areas easier to see. When we switched to another source to view some high-resolution photographs, though, we found the Gaming preset to be totally unsuitable and artificial-looking. We found the more realistic Reference preset to be better for our high-resolution photos. Thankfully, your choice of preset for each HDMI input is remembered, so if you use the Gaming mode for your games console on input and Reference for your laptop on the other, the projector will automatically choose the preset you last used for each device.

What Optoma say about their projector GT1080e

Other great little feature of this projector is the adjustable front leg, this means if your screen pulls down to a level where it is either slightly too high or low you can simply use this to adjust the projection height. The fan is also very quiet while in use, not noticeable at all while watching films or gaming at a reasonable volume. For the most immersive images, the GT1080e is also compatible with 3D. Just add the optional ZF2300 3D glasses system, connect up to a suitable source and enjoy 3D images that are every bit as bold as at the cinema. Rather than using Infrared, the Optoma uses a Radio Frequency (RF) system. This not only reduces the chance of interference but also provides a higher contrast and brighter images. The optional glasses are also fully rechargeable. With its short throw lens, the Optoma GT1080e is ideal for smaller rooms. Even when positioned just over a metre from the wall, the Optoma can produce an image as big as 100" (254cm), making the biggest pictures in the smallest rooms easy to achieve. Settle for a smaller size image (still big by TV standards) and you’ll get a crystal clear image within a metre of the wall – making this ideal for desktop projection.

Image quality is excellent for the price. The 2,800 lumen bulb is bright enough to overcome some artificial light, although you should dim your lights and close the curtains whenever possible as darker spots on screen suffer greatly when external light sources are present. The DLP chip, which projects through a high-speed colour wheel, creates crisp and colourful images although during your first few days with the projector you will need to test out various colour and image options to see which ones suit you best. Short throw projectors are a great way of bringing big screen gaming to a small room at a lower price than a typical large TV. The Optoma GT1080 does exactly this and is able to create a 100-inch display from just a metre away, meaning that even the smallest gaming den should have room for it. So to summarise it's a short throw projector ideal for bedrooms and tight spaces, you are best to beam it onto a wall or fixed frame screen as it will make a mobile screen look creased. The colours are good for the price and in truth you buy this projector for the nice little features with connectivity rather than true colours. Going to be very popular, best to use on a table. Optoma produce good home entertainment units, there are not many with short throws from other brands so it does offer something worth considering. What Optoma say about their projector GT1080e Featuring an exceptional brightness figure of 3000 ANSI Lumens, the GT1080e not only offers bright and vivid colours but is also ideal for use in many lighting conditions. Even during daylight conditions with curtains or blinds open, the Optoma produces a watchable and detailed picture – use in darker settings and the picture improves still further, with the excellent 25,000:1 contrast ratio coming to the fore.

Designed to make a big picture in a small room, the Optoma GT1080e is the ideal solution for immersive entertainment at home or away. The GT1080 handles rapid movement reasonably well. It doesn’t support frame interpolation, which is something we’ve seen on more expensive projectors, but we found that although juddering on moving objects was present it didn’t distract from the action or ruin our gaming. We would have liked to have seen more digital image processing tools such as noise reduction, but they are rarely found on a projector at this price. Place your GT1080e on a coffee table and conveniently project a stunning 100 inch Full HD 1080p image from just over a meter from a flat surface or screen. Bright and versatile this portable projector is ideal for gamers with its low input latency, live sports and home entertainment any time of day. It even comes with a carry bag so you can take it round to a friend’s house for a sports event, movie night or games marathon to provide you with the best big screen experience anywhere with a flat surface. Using Texas Instrument's DLP DarkChip 3 technology, the Optoma GT1080e gives crystal clear clarity, sharply defined images and true, natural colour. Even at larger screen sizes, the detail is astounding, meaning you can sit closer to the screen without the picture degrading. The Optoma also projects 1080p Full HD images, making it the perfect match for your Blu-ray player or Full HD gaming device.
