On full display, you’ll see its sleek and attractive design aesthetic which is something we greatly appreciate.

It’s the easiest mixer to set up in this entire list, and it may even feel basic compared to other XLR options. Both the original and the Mini feature the MIDAS preamps, which is basically a middle-man that controls volume between your mic, interface, and streaming PC. The device only uses those circular LEDs to show gain levels after you've gone into the red and beyond it. Basically it's showing you how much the "clipguard" is working to reduce your volume (some kind of limiter that they added to this). This is great, but it could have easily also shown you how far you are in the green or yellow before reaching the clipping. Since the Wave XLR was bolstered because of the company’s Wave Link, we mixed via the software. This was instead of mixing through the product itself. In addition to the XLR input and USB-C connection, the rear also features a 3.5mm headphone connection, allowing you to plug directly into the Wave XLR and monitor your audio output with zero-latency. The USB connection will also route your computer audio through the Wave XLR, allowing you to monitor your entire mix, which you can easily balance using the large knob on the front of the device. The knob turns infinitely, using the surrounding LEDs to communicate the levels of each of the three main settings it controls: mic input gain, output volume to the headphones, and to dial in the crossfade mix between your mic and your PC audio. The knob simply pushes in to switch between the settings. You can also toggle the 48V phantom power on and off depending on if your particular XLR mic needs it or not. While the mic we used was a condenser mic, Elgato also says that Wave XLR can breathe life into dynamic microphones via “75 dB of ultra low-noise gain.”

As a dynamic microphone, its capsule applies a bit of crunch to the voice, giving it radio-like character while still maintaining high resolution, natural-sounding vocal capture. The sound is warm, so your voice has presence, but doesn’t sound dull or over-compressed. This makes it a good fit for vocal work, such as podcasts, voiceover, and of course, streaming. You can use VST’s in wave link to further tune your voice or audio recording. No need for other software. Just add your VST’s into wave link and use the monitoring to hear the difference. These effects can also be put into game chats if you select the FX input. Very helpful to introduce some noise suppression in game. You can also get some usage of higher impedance headphones with this. Brand name is an important factor for a lot of Twitch streamers who are shopping for an audio mixer.
