The matting is made from non-rotting material and is highly resistant to salts, acids, alkalis, solvents, alcohols and oils. Since the matting is made of waterproof polypropylene, DITRA installations can be made waterproof with minimal effort. In principle, it is quite common to bond tiles directly to the screed, but it is often advisable to lay them separately. The reason for this is as simple as it is serious: Using a trowel or taping knife, spread the mortar over an area about three feet by three feet and ensure it is smooth. Using the notched side of a trowel, comb the mortar to create horizontal lines along the area. This will help the tile adhere.
