About this deal

I like trying to pick out clusters of galaxies in large binoculars, like springtime's Leo Triplets (they aren't really siblings). kilograms), we found in our Celestron SkyMaster Pro 15x70 binocular review that they certainly have a lot of heft, but using them handheld isn't impossible.

Although the IPD in theory could be adjusted down to 56mm, the vertical bar which gets screwed onto the tripod actually blocks such adjustment at about 60-61mm as soon as one moves the adapter to the center of gravity of the binocular, because the vertical bar interferes with the front part of the tubes. Celestrons SkyMaster 20x80 large aperture binoculars are phenomenal value for high performance binoculars ideal for astronomical viewing or for terrestrial observation use - especially over long distances.

As expected, Mars is easily observable as a small red ball, but you can't really make out any other features than that, but am told that in better conditions you may be able to make out the basins from the red areas.

My new Helios LightQuest-HR 28x110 binos – advice for

My interest came from a desire for a high magnification binocular for coastal and wetland bird watching: Whilst most bird watchers will use spotting scopes, I wanted to see how a high power binocular would perform as an alternative. I also then offer up the idea of instead using a standard "daytime" Spotting Scope for astronomy and go through the pros and cons when compared to using a telescope or binoculars for viewing the night sky and in particular deep space objects.Hand held binoculars have to be light enough to hold up to the sky, whilst binoculars mounted on a tripod can get very large. It’s these numbers that reveal which objects you can observe by telling you how much you can magnify them by and how much light your binoculars can collect. If you're prone to trembling arms or will be using these binos for long sessions, we advise pairing them with one of the best tripods for astrophotography or the best travel tripod . Celestron has designed and engineered these larger 100mm SkyMaster models to meet the special demands of extended astronomical or terrestrial viewing sessions.

Ideal long-range terrestrial and astronomy binoculars, these 15x70 Bresser Spezial Astro SF binoculars combine a fully multi-coated optical system with quality BaK-4 Porro prisms and a tough water and fog proof aluminum housing that, in turn, deliver a quality of view and user experience that is well above average. If you are going to use your binoculars for astronomy and don't want the hassle of using a tripod, 7x50 binoculars are a classic size. Putting a binocular on a tripod or mount pushes the binocular into the telescope realm as far as operation goes, but it is the only way to handle magnifications over 15-20x effectively. They'll need to have large objective lenses (the ones facing the stars) to let in as much of the faint starlight as possible. They are excellent for casual nature observation or travel, without worrying about exceeding your luggage weight limit.

The larger the binocular, the more you’ll be able to see, but be warned: They’ll also be heavier and will require a tripod for steady sights of the heavens. In common with many other large binoculars, there is a longitudinal bar that connects the hinge to cuffs on the objective lens cells. Turning the focus wheel on these binoculars is effortless and provides just the right level of resistance, even if you're wearing thick gloves.

Nevertheless, it still produced some quite nice views of the moon and allowed the spotting of many fine structures on the moon surface (that were not all visible in the next smaller size Celestron, the Skymaster 20x80, which I just used for a quick comparison). For example a 10x50 binocular has a magnification, or 'power' of 10x with front lenses with a diameter of 50mm. We've chosen the Celestron SkyMaster 25x100 binocularsas our Editors' Choice for large astronomy binoculars. Jump to the other end of the binoculars, look "backwards" through the 100 mm objective lenses and you'll notice the barrels' interiors are well knurled.
