About this deal

But she's soon having second thoughts about the job. The work is okay, even though it's more like busy work that anything else. The other employees seem to be under the impression that she's done something to get this job. And she feels that someone is following her. I really enjoyed this one a lot. It took me a while to get into it, but when I did, I ended up really liking it, and that was mostly due to the characters (yes, like in any book I read). I will say that I wasn't the biggest fan of the relationships between the characters and how they developed. This was genuinely the weakest aspect of this story for me and I think that this is definitely an aspect that suffers if you write a story that just takes place over the course of one day. Rinn is the half-Latine, half-white who is a bookish content creator on the Internet and is a sunshine with beautiful curls; has a huge crush on AJ, the art boy coworker. Briefly, Grace is happily married with two young children. Her husband is an aspiring author so now her youngest, Russ, is starting school she applies for, and gets a well paid job. However, it turns out not to be the dream job she expected as she is asked to do strange and pointless tasks. Grace begins to worry that she has inherited her grandmothers schizophrenia as her mind keeps returning to the day her sister Hope was killed by a hit and run driver. With her husband leaving his job Grace needs to keep hers. But at what cost? Is she going mad or is it something more sinister?

The start of this book is slow burn. It gives a lot of wonderful little gems as it shows you about the characters. While I generally like a faster burn however this just had something to it that made it very interesting. I need time to process & write a full review. But, wow I really loved this one. Aminah Mae Safi writes some of the best female characters in YA contemporary. Her writing is descriptive and makes you think. I wanted to write out a bunch of the quotes. I can't wait to reread this one and underline all my favorites. Many thanks to the publisher, macmillan, for sending me a free ARC in exchange for an honest review Moving forward 18 years, Grace now lives with husband Troy & their two young children Mia & Russ. After being accepted for her dream job at Langdale Consulting, her mind & life slowly start spiralling out of control....is the schizophrenia that took her Grandmother's life hereditary or is she just being paranoid. Daniela loves to write poetry but stays secretive about this passion of hers. Rinn is a bookish content creator who loves to read, and that's something I was so so happy to see because who doesn't want to see their enthusiasm being reflected in a story they read? My dramatic self would say I almost cried when Rinn talked about how fulfilling content creation can be but also comes with the struggle of always being online, always engaging, always keeping up one's numbers, and always feeling a sense of pressure from the community and audience itself. The unravelling of Grace was so well described I could feel her anxiety. I also felt the Benny’s pain and as much as I didn’t want to, felt sympathy for Mother.

When Grace suspects she is being followed, she struggles to keep herself together for her family’s sake. I'm not 100% sure how a book that has so many blatant similarities isn't being pegged for plagiarism. So, massive spoilers ahead, but.... oh well. You've been warned. At the centre of this story is the indie bookstore, Wild Nights, and all the characters trying to save the store from being closed. The story starts with a bit of a wild attempt by one of the employees, Eli, to invest a whole bunch of money by buying and re-selling Jordans.. but things just get worse from there. The story was well-written and kept the suspense and mystery going all the way through. The twist was something I didn’t see coming, and I love how it was all tied up so nicely, with a lovely ending that means we might get a follow up book. The problem is it doesn't feel like it's for fans of Empire Records. It seems like it IS Empire Records. With some minor changes. Spans over a day at work in an independent bookstore whose charm and magic is being lost to financial greed. What I didn't connect to was how all over the place the book seemed. It jumped around a little too much to really get to know the characters. A lot of people were introduced in a small amount of time that I started to forget a lot of the regulars. And then there was the conclusion which was so off the wall and unrealistic that I just didn't feel the happiness that I probably was supposed to. multiple reviewers ( celia and sarah) have written that this is on the brink of plagiarizing the movie Empire Records, which i have never seen. This book has a premise that sounds very simple, but the story it tells is so beautiful and profound.

In general while I truly didn't feel very attached to these character because of the nature of this story and the short time span, I just genuinely adored the way these characters were portrayed as flawed but willing to learn and grow. Some of these characters are truly unlikeable but it doesn't make them any less enjoyable to read about. I hated the main characters and while usually I have to like characters in this case the story outweighed the horrific characters. She felt new, fresh. She felt cleansed. From all the loathing that had been welling up inside of her. From the slow creep into the darkness. Wild Nights had saved her. Again.” Fast-paced and sizzling with a forbidden enemies-to-lovers romance, Your Fault is the second book in Mercedes Ron's Culpable trilogy. This suspenseful YA series untangles the threads of love, trauma, and secrets, perfect for fans of Ugly Love and After .
