About this deal

The Cricut Maker comes in various colors, including Rose, Lilac, Blue, and Champagne, while the Maker 3 comes in light blue only (although that will likely change in the future). Another thing that is different is the original Maker only had a metallic colored lid and glossy white body while the new Maker has an all over glossy color with a silver metallic lid. Something you may not notice is that the Maker 3’s name is written on the tool housing. This makes it easy to know exactly which machine you are using. Power Adapter The other key difference between the Cricut Maker and the Cricut Maker 3 is the cutting speed. While the Cricut Maker has always been known for its speedy vinyl cutting, the Maker 3 is twice as fast, which will allow you to power through projects in record time. Many crafters have found more success working with other materials, including leather and other brands of vinyl and iron-on. If you’re one of them, you don’t need Smart Materials.

With over 16 projects and 21 chapters, this hands-on e-course teaches you how to use your machine to its full potential. With the prerecorded lessons, take my course at your own pace, and rewatch lessons as needed. The new roller holder is used to help you feed your Smart Materials into the Cricut Maker 3 and is not compatible (or necessary) with the original Maker. Not only does it keep your Smart Materials neatly in place, but it trims the roll when your project is complete. Neither of these accessories is strictly necessary if you buy a Cricut Maker 3, but they are nice to have. Cricut Maker vs. Cricut Maker 3: Which should you buy? Cricut Maker 3 cuts at up to 8 inches per second, vs. the original Cricut Maker’s 4 inches per second. To get a little technical, this 8 inches per second cutting speed is on both the X and Y axis, meaning that the cutting speed is also faster than competitor machines. I’ll be doing a comparison on that soon too, so be on the lookout! Cricut Maker offers the widest range of tools for cutting, scoring, writing, and adding decorative effects – all so you can take on virtually any project you can imagine. With new tools always being added, Cricut Maker grows with you as you master each newcraft. This post covers the similarities and differences between Cricut Maker and the new Cricut Maker 3. Spoiler alert—the machines are very similar, but Cricut Maker 3 can cut faster, without a mat!You can use nearly all of the same tools and accessories with both machines, but there are a couple of exceptions. Cricut introduced two new accessories with the Maker 3: a larger portable trimmer and a roll holder. The new portable trimmer is needed because Since Smart Materials are 13 inches wide, and the original trimmer was only 12 inches. Of course, you can use the larger trimmer to cut smaller materials. The Maker 3 definitely has a different focus than the Maker since it does not have the Rotary Blade and housing, fine point pen, or any mats.

The Maker 3 delivers greater speeds if you’re working with Smart Materials. With more than double the speed on the Cricut Maker, you can create double the craft in the same amount of time. Both machines offer Print Then Cut capability on both white and coloured paper. The only other Cricut that offers this function is the Explore 3, which works with half the number of tools. Let’s go over some of the details and size limits of these materials and answer some questions you might have about them. Smart Vinyl The ultimate in professional-level cutting performance and versatility. Adaptive Tool Systemfor professional-level cutting performance and expandabilityYou may notice that the cut button is different. On Maker, the cut button is this “C” but on the Maker 3, it’s a more universal play button. The buttons are the same, too. There's a button to turn the machine off, a button to load and unload materials, and buttons to start and pause the cutting process. In addition to saving you the time of putting materials on a mat, Smart Materials allow the Maker 3 to cut two times faster than the Maker. The Cricut Maker 3 can also cut “matless” Cricut Smart Materials, which I’ll cover below! Cricut Maker cannot cut these Smart Materials. This is one of the biggest differences between the two machines. What’s Different: Cricut Maker 3 vs. Cricut Maker Looking to buy a Cricut Maker? You might be wondering what the differences are in Cricut Maker vs. Cricut Maker 3. This post covers the differences between these two Cricut machines so you can make an informed decision about buying!

To go along with the release of Smart Materials, Cricut updated their portable trimmer and released a new roll holder. Both machines connect to your computer using either a USB cord or bluetooth. Bluetooth is fine for most cutting, but for longer cuts using the Knife Blade (see below), I do recommend plugging in via USB so you don’t risk lisung the connection. Cricut Maker and Cricut Maker 3 Tools As your project cuts, the roll holder evenly feeds your Smart Material in and out of the Maker 3. Once it’s done cutting, your Maker 3 positions the end of your cut just above the trimmer. Before you unload your project, just slide the trimmer across for a clean, straight cut. Should I Get the Maker or Maker 3? Both machines are able to use the same blades with all of the Cricut cutting mats to create your own custom designs. All the blades and tools that work on the original Maker can also work on the Maker 3. Cricut didn’t produce any new blades with the Maker 3, so the blades are interchangeable here. It’s likely any new tools or blades created will be compatible with both models of the Maker. So, how do these machines know which blade you are using? When you proceed to cut your project, the machine moves the tool carriage to the right (this process is called "homing"). It will them scan the blade to find out which blade is installed. Now let’s talk about what’s different! There are a few ways the Cricut Maker 3 differs from the original Cricut Maker:
