About this deal

Sol has a habit of sponsoring football, at one stage it sponsored 15 teams in Mexico, under the slogan “football unites us”. They also sponsored the national team of Mexico. Well that’s one way to get people to drink your beer, as we all know how much football heads like to drink cheap alcohol!

In 1912, Cervecería Moctezuma acquired El Salto del Agua, and with it came the expansion of Cerveza Sol all around Mexico, but it wasn’t until the 1980’s that the brand started to get international significance with mass advertising in the UK, Germany and the USA. In 2010 the brand was acquired by Heineken International. On the taste it is very, very light, initially getting a creamy flavour, bit dry in the mouth as well. Coffee is a huge part of the culture in Australia but of course so is the outdoors, SoL have brought the two cultures together, creating something that is healthy for us and helps reduce disposables that are polluting and harming the environment.

It is a beach time beer anyhow, Acapulco style, dont know how it will work though in the Northern European wet and cold harsh climate, but let’s see……… Made of Hand-Blown borosilicate glass, which is lighter and stronger than ordinary glass and also, does not retain any smell. 100% plastic, BPA-free and chemical-free. It is also lightweight, durable and crystal clear. Please be careful with the cup as it is made of glass and will break when dropped from a certain height. Sol is the authentic Mexican beer, born in 1899 in Orizba, near the highest point in Mexico. The original brewer discovered a refreshing and light recipe that is still used to this day. Rays of sunlight peeped through the breweries roof onto the transparent bottle inspiring the name Sol, in honour of the sun. Sol uses special light resistant hops that preserve the refreshing taste even on the sunniest of days. Now brewed with Solar Energy. Great for all occasions, Sol is a light and refreshing golden pilsner style beer with a fresh and lemony finish. Enjoy Sol with Mexican food and at BBQs, served chilled with a wedge of lime.

This is why they designed the SoL Cup and SoL Bottle, wanting to become a part of the solution to plastic waste, their products are infinitely reusable as they are made from glass with food grade silicone lids and sleeves. You can use the bottles to store beverages of different temperatures. Borosilicate glass is resistant to temperature changes. Feel is actually decent being very drinkable and has some actual body to it although it is still very light once you get past the carbonation and head stage of the sip. The finish isn't as short as I would've expected for a beer this light amd it leaves you feeling malty and a bit boozy for a decent while after your sip. Through the bottle it looks a light yellow, but on pour we do get a nice sparkling golden colour with a very frothy creamy white head, a nice good bit of carbonation fizzing away. Some lacing present as well.

Good to know

Designed in Bondi, Australia, the SoL cup was born from a love of an active, outdoor lifestyle. The SoL mission is to end waste and embrace a happy healthy lifestyle that is sustainable and eco-friendly. Founded in 1899 inside a small brewery near Mexico City called “El Salto del Agua”, a German brewmaster observed a sunbeam falling on the cooking pot; this natural phenomenon caught his attention, and in honor of that experience, he christened his new beer as “The Sun” (“Sol”). The beer soon became popular amongst the hard working ordinary people of the city who liked a beer or two after a hard days work. Other products they make are Cerveza Sol Clamato, a red coloured shandy and Cerveza Sol Sal y Limón, a 4.5% vol lemon beer.
