About this deal

As for media consumption, the built-in 2.1 sound system is seriously impressive – not to mention, space-saving since you won’t be needing a pair of external speakers. It’s expensive and not quite gaming-friendly. You might experience motion blur, image tearing and skipped frames when playing fast-paced games. However, if you have the money to spend on a premium display for work and entertainment, it’s definitely a winner. A few monitors in this class can also make use of a USB-C port for a virtual keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) switch. Such a feature lets you control two computers connected to the monitor via a single keyboard and mouse, as long as one computer is connected via the USB-C port. Users doing render work or data processing on a second PC might be attracted to this unusual, space-saving feature. (Credit: Zlata Ivleva) If you compare it with a 34-inch display, it is the same as 3440×1440 resolution while on a 27-inch screen it would be equal to 2560×1440 which is pretty amazing when it comes to image quality. The PA34VC Professional Curved Monitor is a cool, sprawling panel designed for creative professionals. Its excellent color accuracy recommends it to video editors, designers, and photographers, while game designers will appreciate its curved 1900R screen with ultrawide aspect ratio as well as its FreeSync support and 100Hz refresh rate. As mentioned, many gaming-focused models employ a curved screen to provide for a more immersive experience. A common curvature for gaming monitors is 1800R, which means that if you were to place enough monitors side by side to form a circle it would have a radius of 1,800mm (1.8 meters). The higher the curvature number, the gentler or shallower the curve. Conversely, the lower the number, the more drastically curved the panel; we've seen monitors with curvature as extreme as 800R. In truth, we're slightly torn on whether the Odyssey OLED G9 or the LG UltraGear 45GR95QE-B is our absolute go to curved gaming monitor at this sort of price point. Ultimately, the G9 wins us over on the ultrawide front, but playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 on Samsung's screen proves its also a winner on the OLED front. We found that playing at 144Hz and 160Hz results in an enjoyable experience without screen tearing. Meanwhile, the DCI-P3 98% color gamut support makes it a good option for photographers and video editors. The HDR here is still a middling version, with a peak brightness of only 600 nits. Still, although it can’t compare to OLEDs in particular, the UltraGear 38GN950 does display a decent HDR image. It's not got any flashy, attention-grabbing design quirks, but upon closer inspection, it has specs inside that will get you excited - even if you're a twitchy or competitive gamer. The CU34G2X offers both a 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time – two of the most important specs for speedy gaming, which means that - as well as the gorgeous ultrawide resolution and picture - you can be sure you're playing at high speeds too. In the professional-content-creator arena, graphic artists and photographers can benefit from extra screen width. They can open and work with two or more images (or several versions of the same photo or illustration) side by side. Ultrawides often let photo or video editors look at their source material in full resolution, while allowing enough screen space alongside it for palettes, toolbars, or timelines to coexist without requiring resizing or shuffling. (Credit: Molly Flores) The AW3821DW adds to its premium status with G-Sync Ultimate certification, working with Nvidia graphics cards from 24-144 Hz with HDR. It also proved to be FreeSync-compatible in our tests, though it has not been certified by AMD. You’ll have to use the DisplayPort 1.4 input to hit 144 Hz signals or use (unofficial) FreeSync. The HDMI 2.0 inputs support up to 85 Hz at full resolution and 120 Hz at 2560 x 1440.

Many ultrawide gaming monitors are available as well. Not every gamer or game will benefit from an ultrawide panel, but they're particularly suited for racing games, flight simulators, and other genres that give players a panoramic vista or reward gamers by letting them see areas in their peripheral vision.Generally, ultrawide business displays have an abundance of ports: at least one HDMI and one DisplayPort input, both upstream and downstream USB ports, and USB Type-C ports are typical. With many newer ultrawide business monitors, the USB-C port can transfer data as well as the video signal (the latter using the DisplayPort over USB protocol), while simultaneously powering or charging the laptop from which it's displaying the image (if applicable). (Credit: Zlata Ivleva) Meanwhile, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is a massive 49-inches, with a resolution of 5,120 x 1,440. If you want the largest ultrawide monitor in 2023, then the Samsung Odyssey Neo G95C is the one to get - it offers a huge 57-inches of screen. You'll need a lot of desk space, though. Where can I buy an ultrawide monitor? There are opportunities for improvement here. The bending mechanism still feels clunky, HDR10 support is also disappointing, and there are no swivel or height adjustments. However, this is a truly versatile and immersive gaming monitor that's worth considering if you want to go the ultrawide route. Ultrawide monitorshave an aspect ratio of either 21:9 or 32:9, providing more horizontal screen space than traditional monitors. These are great if you like opening multiple windows simultaneously. While many ultrawide monitors are designed with gaming in mind, they also offer good office performance, meaning they're great if you need something for work and play. There are also models designed with productivity in mind, as these tend to have higher resolutions and some additional features.
