About this deal

She ignores obvious tells and clues; when she unearths clues that jeopardizes her lover's alibi, she dismisses them and blames the errors on the witness. The author also built the portrait of young Casey very well. A bit of a lost young girl who finds herself in a pathological situation from which she cannot escape. I loved how complicated her situation is and that Casey realizes it. I liked that this part of the story is not devoid of some reflection from the perspective of what happened next, and that Rachel herself tries to evaluate her actions and feelings at the time. I've read every book by Claire McGowan and I was strongly anticipating "I know you" and I wasn't disappointed. It was well worth the wait.

The film was followed by a direct sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), with the main surviving characters returning. Later, a direct-to-video sequel was made called I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006), without featuring any of the original cast. At one point, a remake was planned. In 2021, a television series was released. As of 2023, a legacy sequel is in the works. The one highlight from my point about this plot was the inclusion of the media trial and the social media condemnation which usually takes place when a person is accused of a crime (whether or not they are guilty!) When Rachel stumbles upon a body in the woods, she knows what she has to do: run. Get away. Do not be found at the scene. Last time, she didn’t know, and she ended up accused of murder. But when this victim is identified as her boyfriend’s estranged wife, Rachel realises she’s already the prime suspect.

One thing I hated was when Ruby started telling Mara the secret about the CCTV camera at Monty’s, Euan had trusted Ruby with that and I absolutely hated the face that she ruined his trust. Most definitely a Euan Stan.

The Casey Anthony case meets the Jon-Benet Ramsey case in this suspenseful, well-written thriller by Claire McGowan. But what would happen if a child-killer like the one who killed Jon-Benet was exonerated on appeal, grew up, changed her name, and then stumbled upon another murder way too close to home? Did someone discover who she was and try to frame her? And was she actually innocent of the original crime? J'ADORE. 4.5/5 stars only because the "reveal" was obvious from the start. However, Claire's writing, character-building, and the original storyline kept me engaged. I did at times find the book intriguing but also at times rather predictable, there where parts of the book where I was hooked but also parts where I thought events where being dragged out and I got bored.Since Lois Duncan published her enduringly popular YA murder-mystery I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1973, unto every generation a new version is born. Adolescents in the 70s had the book, while 90s teens had the film starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Philippe and Freddie Prinze Jr. While it was a classic of the post-Scream slightly-meta-slasher boom, director Jim Gillespie noted that about two-thirds of the young women auditioning for parts had read the book as children.

Georgia was certainly an interesting character who along with Amber, was much more than what appeared on the surface, while Isaac was a very unpleasant individual and as such was impossible to like. The one storyline that should have been developed more was Ruby's family situation, as there were only occasional insights into her mother's condition and the absence of her father. She struggles to settle at Robinson and after an anonymous person spreads malicious rumours about her, the truth about Ruby's past becomes common knowledge. Although she is supported by the school's staff and becomes close to a boy called Euan, the unwanted attention she receives is too much for her deal with and just when things cannot seem any worse, she discovers that someone very close to Hannah happens to be in the year below. A girl, a secret, a new school… and murder! This was a really great thriller and I enjoyed it a lot! The ending was OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY, and I really loved it. It was exciting and a perfect ending to this story. I do hope that in the future people are a bit kinder to Ruby. Less judgmental over a mistake she made years and years ago.
