About this deal

Granted, the twist is so substantial that it should be referred to as a Twist – four detectives discover the same body, in the same spot, decades apart – but for a brief time, it seems good rather than great. So, you might be wondering who Si Spencer was and why he was so pivotal to Bodies on Netflix being created. Throughout the book you'll find countless hints, clues, references and allusions, not just in the dialogue but in the names of people, places and things - and indeed within the artwork. In the closing moments of the show, Shahara was chatting to her cab driver about the future of London and saying that she felt the city was on the precipice of change.

In 2022, Netflix announced that a series based on Spencer's Vertigo series Bodies had been greenlit, with Moonage Pictures producing.

It seems to have caught a touch of Victorian-itis, with everyone giving it the full over-the-top period drama treatment. In one of my past reviews I talked about "the anime moment" - that moment when a story stops making sense and everything is resolved in a big explosion of weird.

If not, you probably should be, because if you finish Bodies without wanting to go straight back and look for more things to try to understand, you've seriously missed out on the fun. As racist rioters wreak havoc in the name of their prejudiced patriotism, Detective Sergeant Shahara Hasan leads the fight against them. The production for the limited series was originally set to get underway in April 2022 according to production listings for the working title of Project IV.

The comic was released in 2015, and Si Spencer teamed up with four different illustrators, each of which gave each time frame its unique feel. Detectives in each era discover a body of a naked man curled in the same position in the same alleyway in London. Besides Maplewood’s, the storylines themselves are also easy to follow, up to a point, and are very compelling. Here’s where the caveats come in: it is a really involving book with the mystery driving the reader on and the characters becoming more complex and interesting the further we get in. The best thing about it was the 2014 storyline, with a Muslim policewoman working amid the suspicion of her co-workers.

Bodies by Si Spencer | Goodreads

Same corpse, same position, same location and the same elements of what appears to be a ritualistic killing.Edmond Hillinghead is an 1890s overachiever who's trying to solve a murder no one cares about while hiding his own secret. Each of the main characters has a secret side, which as the course of the investigation progresses, is revealed. Spencer gets a point for that from me, if not from all of the Goodreads readers who absolutely HATED this comic as merely confusing and incoherent.
