About this deal

Roland in Time [6] (by Gem Software) - a more colourful clone of Manic Miner/ Jet Set Willy with some overt homages to Doctor Who.

It is jointly narrated by Mensah Bediako as Vanriel, alongside Amber James and Ashley D Gayle who play a chorus of broad-brush characters, from his mother to his managers. Being the intrepid Roland, you are able to jump over the rats to escape them and to defend yourself you can shoot at the mummies, skeletons or vampires, inevitably killing them.Zahra Mansouri’s boxing ring stage is slowly pulled apart as the glittering career gives way to the second, darker act in Vanriel’s life when he sinks into depression and drug dependency. Worse still, he is refused re-entry to the UK after travelling to Jamaica, living in poverty and ill health for the next 13 years before David Lammy MP and the Guardian’s campaigning leads to his return home, and a landmark victory in the high court. Roland Goes Digging [5] (by Gem Software for Amsoft) - a Space Panic clone. Roland navigates around a series of platforms and dispatches aliens by digging holes to trap them in. Roland on the Ropes is a conversion of Spectrum game called Fred published by the Spanish hardware and software developer and publisher Indescomp in 1983 a year before the release of the Amstrad CPC 464. Gameplay Your strength will fade as you are confronted with monsters, acid drops, mummies, rats, skeletons, ghosts and vampires. At the start of each level you start at the bottom of a tomb. You have to climb up ropes in the randomised cavern looking for the right path to the exit at the top of the tomb, collecting treasure for bonus points as go. As you progress through the levels the quantity and type of enemies increase.

Roland on the Ropes [2] (by Indescomp) - A copy of the Spanish game Fred. Roland had to collect bullets, treasures and maps while climbing ropes to get out of a tomb/pyramid. Some villains can be destroyed (skeletons, bats, mummies) while some can only be forced to change direction (ghosts) and some have to be jumped over (dripping poison, rats, scorpions). When the game ends, the end music is the Funeral March. The game was released for the Spectrum and the Commodore as well, and was later remade for the PC. [3]

Directed by Anastasia Osei-Kuffour and written by Vanriel along with Dougie Blaxland, it is without doubt an extraordinary rags-to-riches-to-rags-again story but delivered in a production that is too faithfully focused on the chronology of events rather than their dramatic power. At two-and-a-half hours long, it becomes less and less light on its feet.

Roland is armed with a gun with limited ammo which can be used to kill the Mummies, Skeletons and Bat but only scares the Ghosts away for a short while. Rats and Chameleons have to be avoided, jumping over the Rats and switching the side of the ropes you are climbing up for the Chameleons. In Roland on the Ropes you climb ropes in the attempt to escape tombs filled with an increasing number and variety of monsters as you progress through the levels. This time our shapeshifting hero found himself in a simplistic ladders and platform format as he attempts to escape from the tomb he's found himself raiding... Eat your heart our Lara Croft... Roland in Space (by Gem Software) - a sequel to Roland In Time. Again, a more colourful clone of the Miner Willy games with homages to Doctor Who. You find yourself right at the lowest level of the tomb and must endeavour to find your way through the maze to the top encountering may hostile beings who are out to get you.
