About this deal

There isn’t one. Keycaps are entirely up to preference, if you haven’t tried other keycap materials or profiles, I’d suggest trying a cheaper keycap set and see if you like it, I found that way that I love the cherry profile but don’t really care for XDA. What are pudding keycaps? Not only is ABS tough, but it also has acceptably high impact resistance. Modification can occur during the formation of ABS plastics by altering the percentages of chemical constituents to make the ABS tougher and more resilient to heat and impact. Unlike ABS keycaps, PBT keycaps are less common and much tougher. They take forever to wear out, and that’s why they don’t change color like ABS over time. The downside of PBT keycaps is the price tag, brittleness, and scarcity.

PBT plastic is also a type of thermoplastic but, unlike ABS, it has a semi-crystalline structure. It's strong and more heat resistant than ABS, and can be mixed with other materials in the manufacturing process to produce unique traits. ABS plastics are known to melt at about 105degrees, while PBT melts at 225 degrees, making ABS keys easier to mold. Due to a high melting point, molding your own PBT takes longer to cool and is more likely to warp. – Double-Shot Keycaps PBT is much more durable than ABS and, as a result, more expensive and difficult to mold. The increased difficulty in manufacturing PBT is the main reason for ABS's popularity over PBT in the current market. Most commercial keyboards just don't need to last all that long, and are often replaced with more modern keyboards before they've reached the true end of their functionality. It doesn't make sense for manufacturers (and consumers) to incur increased expense for a product they're not really going to put to the test. PBT is a truly industrial material, and often considered too expensive for non-industrial applications that won't take full advantage of its durability. The Best Keyboard Keycaps

PBT, as compared to ABS, is far more robust, so it both wears more slowly than ABS, and the pattern of wear is more even, so the keycaps stay usable and pretty for longer.

Durability: PBT keycaps are more durable and resistant to wear compared to other materials like ABS. They are less prone to becoming shiny or worn down over extended use, making them suitable for heavy typists. PBT, due to its somewhat complicated manufacturing process and price, is less common than ABS. It is pretty expensive to source. ABS is also, by far, the most common material for keycaps. Nearly every major computer manufacturer uses ABS keycaps, with PBT reserved for more high-end and niche machines. Most mass-produced keyboards use thin, cheap ABS keycaps, which are fine for most applications, but not the most long-lasting solution. Pros of ABS Keycaps ABS keycaps are generally more affordable, making them a budget-friendly option for those seeking customization. Which Keycap Material is Right for You? Oil Absorption: ABS keycaps can absorb oils from fingertips over time, potentially leading to a change in appearance and texture.Susceptibility to Shine: when you use it for a long time, it will be worn and the wear is smooth, the surface of ABS keycaps can develop a shine or glossy sheen, especially on frequently used keys. Anyway, I am just learning. Thinking about getting an upgrade on my Redragon keyboard. It ain't much, but it works!Hi there! I'm the author of this guide. I actually do talk about it, but in regard to spherical and cylindrical. Those rounded retro caps are spherical. You can usually tell them because they often have "SA" somewhere in the name: SA, DSA, ASA, OSA. There is also MT3 profile from Drop. It's important to note that the height of those profiles can be different and is often less than true SA keycaps. Really, SA with most others refers to two things (usually): 1) they have a rounded shape, and 2) they're probably a bit taller than Cherry profile. But that second one isn't a given with how often brands release modifications to different profiles. CannonKeys' has a great custom profile called CXA that's rounded but also about the same height as cherry and is honestly one of my favorites. ABS keycaps will also start to thin over time. Its smooth surface makes it easier for your fingers to glide across the keycaps. This greasy and shiny development on the surface is due to exposure to conditions that gradually change the color of the keycaps to yellow. Double shot ABS keycaps still produce shiny surfaces, but the legend never wears off. On the other hand, double shot PBT keycaps have the added advantage of a protected legend and consistent surface. It makes even more interesting clear PBT keycaps. Conclusion
