About this deal

Not only that, but the GP ReCyko Pro 2000mAh AA can hold 70% of a charge after five years. In other words, you can charge them today, store them in a cupboard and have them ready for action when you need them.

Charge 10 uses a unique charging algorithm which optimises the charging current so that the batteries are charged in the fastest possible time, depending on the individual battery type, condition, and temperature. This is done in a safe way and with an innovative cross-flow cooling fan that distributes cool air evenly and quietly to avoid overheating. Charge 10 comes with an integrated AC adapter solution that makes it less bulky and easy to store or travel with. Its unique low noise fan keeps batteries cool and charging quiet, and it allows up to 10 amperes of charging input. With an operating temperature ranging from 0°C to 35°C, Charge 10 delivers reliable performance even in extreme environments. It turned out to be fine. The charger has its own algorithm according to GP, which monitors the charging, and the charging curve should be steeper at the beginning and then flatter than usual (we have not been able to verify this). I then charged and discharged the batteries 50 times, taking measurements every 10 cycles. As you can see from the graph, the batteries held up well, with little variance between the starting and ending charges. This is the charger the market has longed for. Protracted recharge time has been one of the biggest barriers for consumers to switch from single use to rechargeable batteries. Fortunately, a lot has happened since rechargeable batteries were introduced many years ago, and we are very excited to bring this new generation rechargeable solution to the market,” says Michael Lam, Director at GP Batteries International Limited.First, the Eneloop AA batteries can be charged 2000 times (or more), which means they’ll last for a long time. These batteries take more recharge cycles than any others that we have reviewed. It’s common to see NiMH rechargeable batteries that have a total life of around 500 charge cycles. That’s good, as one battery replaces 500 alkaline batteries; but the GP ReCyko Pro 2000mAh AA go further. These batteries have a lifetime of 1500 cycles: that’s more than double the GP ReCyko Charge 10 (when slow-charged). That’s a huge amount of power and makes these batteries suitable for the most demanding tasks, such as demanding toys or super-bright torches. By powering your camera with ReCyko Pro Photoflash rechargeable batteries, you reduce the extra clutter that photography demands whilst ensuring your camera is ready when you are. If the device is not going to be used for a long period of time, we recommend removing all used batteries from the electrical device and always replace used batteries with new batteries of the same size and type. Make sure to switch off the device after the batteries are exhausted or find power down during use and replace them with new rechargeable ones.

Charge 10 has been in development for over two years and we have overcome multiple design challenges to perfect the user experience. One of our team members sparked the original idea at a wedding, observing the countless number of batteries a wedding photographer would go through in a single evening. It shouldn’t be an effort to recharge empty batteries. With Charge 10 there are no more excuses not to switch to rechargeables,” adds Michael Lam. Price is the other issue: these are more expensive batteries than much of the competition. If you need the extra power, the extra outlay is worth it; if not, a set of lower-capacity batteries may do the job for you.If you buy in bulk, these batteries are excellent value, so make a good choice if you need a lot of high-power batteries. If you need more flexibility, the GP ReCyko Pro 2000mAh AA may be better.

These batteries also aren’t so good at retaining charge, with GP quoting them at retaining up to 50% of their capacity after one year. Longer-lasting batteries will typically keep up to 80% or more of their charge.

What Are the Differences Between ReCyko Rechargeable Batteries?

With a starting voltage of 1.4V, these batteries were above the lower limit of 1.2V for rechargeable batteries. Capacity is decent. Rated at 2000mAh, we found that these batteries managed an initial result of 2218mAh, and that didn’t change over the full 50 cycles that we put the batteries through. That’s enough power to take on the most powerful jobs, although if you really need more power, the Ansmann Digital AA HR6 2850mAh may be better. With now decades of experience from innovating rechargeable batteries, what makes our innovation stand out is our team’s deep technical knowledge, together with a thorough understanding of actual use cases and user behaviour. It’s important to not only grasp the technical fundamentals but to keep an open mind on new developments in the industry and in consumers’ lives. We have been working with different engineering teams for mechanical, electrical and software development, thus enabling us to design a highly complex multi-disciplinary product,” says Michael Lam. Each battery is rated at 1700mAh, and can be charged using the fast or Eco options. With fast charging, 10 minutes is all you need to get to 90% capacity; on Eco mode, charging takes longer, but you can get to the full capacity. Better for the environment, better value over their life span and, often, more powerful, rechargeable batteries are typically better than their disposable equivalents.
