About this deal

Unless you live on your own, don't have visitors and always sit directly in front of your TV, viewing angle matters. However, it's worth bearing in mind that an improved display that makes the world of difference to picture quality won't necessarily help the viewing angle. If everything we watched on TV happened to be bright, the 50AU8000 would work just fine. Its pictures skew brighter than usual for such an affordable TV, and this joins forces with some serious colour punch to really sell the HDR dream when you’re watching really light images. Bixby US English, UK English, India English, Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (features vary by language) Accessibillity - Voice Guide UK English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian(only when connecting to Network in EE,LV,LT) It’s not uncommon for a mainstream TV to betray its price-point more readily with the sound it makes than with the images it produces. And so it proves with the Samsung AU9000 TV.

Where the AU9000 puts clear blue water between itself and its cheaper siblings, though, is with its gaming features. For, unlike the other AU ranges, the AU9000’s three HDMIs can support both VRR (variable refresh rate) and 120Hz signals. This instantly makes the UE50AU9000 a much more compelling option as a monitor for a PS5, Xbox Series X or a PC with a new high-end Nvidia or AMD graphics card – even though the 120Hz support can only be sustained at 1080p resolutions rather than 4K.

Choose from a range of networks and inclusive monthly plans to get started with your new Galaxy phone straight away.

While white tones hardly pop from the screen, they’re clean and equally detailed – so while contrasts are far from the widest you’ve ever seen (even at this unremarkable price-point), they’re convincing nevertheless. You can use the SmartThings app on your Samsung Smart TV to connect and control your home’s smart devices. As you’d hope, the AU9000 has the design prowess and extra features required to start justifying its supposed cream of the Crystal 4K crop status. Whether or not you think its prowess extends to the performance, though, probably depends on what you most use your TV for. Price FAQ for Samsung television. Bixby US English, UK English, India English, Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish, BR Portuguese (features vary by language) Colours look unusually well balanced, too, meaning that you don’t find your eye being drawn to the ‘wrong’ parts of an image by any rogue over-aggressive or under-finessed tones. HDR10+ can adjust contrast to suit each scene. It shows its basic tendencies in other areas though. It has no PVR or built-in voice control. As well as the vital picture and sound quality tests, we look at everything - from how easy the PVR is to use to how carefully each TV handles the data it collects.

The AU9000 makes surprisingly good use of its OTS sound technology considering it’s only got two speakers to work with. If you’re intending to see the Samsung AU9000 TV perform at its best, then you’ll need to serve it some native 4K content with HDR10+ augmentation – because, as is always the case (and as is always galling) with Samsung, there’s no Dolby Vision dynamic metadata HDR standard on the spec-sheet. While some colours look beautifully vivid on the 50AU8000, others, especially ‘nature’ greens, can look a touch subdued, resulting in bright HDR footage sometimes looking uneven and inconsistent. The Samsung BU8500 is a very nice TV indeed when you balance the price, specification and screen-size ratio. It gives you comprehensive smart TV support and great 4K picture quality for the same price as the AU9000.The bad news for the Samsung UE50AU9000 is that it shows just enough weakness when it comes to its handling of very dark scenes and native 4K sharpness to open itself up to challenge by some of the cheaper stars of the budget TV firmament. The 50AU8000 also excels with its upscaling of sub-4K content. It adds a seriously impressive amount of detail and sharpness to HD sources, producing much more ‘4K-like’ results than most affordable 4K TVs muster. What’s more, it delivers its excellent upscaling results without exaggerating noise or causing distracting side effects. The bodywork is more solidly built than many rivals in its class, and it’s so slim from every angle that you barely notice its physical form at all once it’s switched on and you’re immersed in its pictures.
