About this deal

Dead in Tombstone' works as a time-pass entertainer. The Script is predictable, but fast-paced. The momentum is ably maintained & the action-sequences are raw & rustic. Roel Reiné's Direction is well-done. Cinematography is attractive, creating impressive visuals all through. The only remotely interesting thing about this film? Rourke plays the devil incarnate. Which, if you've ever seen his 1987 psychological thriller "Angel Heart," is an interesting twist. Unfortunately this film isn't remotely similar to Angel Heart in any other regard, which was one of the best films of the 1980s in this humble critic's opinion; Dead in Tombstone, by contrast, is Dead On Arrival (har, har) and a truly bad film.

Wow, this was far more entertaining than I ever could have imagined! This is a wonderful blend of action, adventure, western, horror and fantasy. Entering the church, Lucifer informs Guerrero of his failure, but does not want to condemn him to Hell. Instead, he forces Guerrero to kill outlaws to pay off his debt. Now, with Edendale out of danger, Guerrero rides off into the countryside, looking for his next bounty to collect for Hell. Dutch born Roel Reiné has already proven himself to be a top-notch action director with movies like Death Race 2 and 12 Rounds: Reloaded. Roel started a new era in Dutch Cinema by making mainstream English language ‘Genre Movies’ with his company Rebel Film and has been very successful at doing them with modest budgets. His latest directorial release is no exception. The greatest weakness of the movie is also its greatest strength; Kilmer's Holliday (and Bein's Johnny Ringo to an extent) steal the show from Russel's Wyatt Earp who is the main protagonist of the film. Powers Booth and a familiar cast of actors take on the roles of the no good "cowboys". Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton and the rest of the cast deliver. Notable: Dean McDermott as Dr Goldsworthy who we suspect is something more than human and he tries to have Guerrero reject Lucifer's hold on him. Supernatural, remember? The acting is good all around, the music is good, the gun fights are well choreographed, but the cinematography is awesome and almost a work of art on their own. Kudos. Trejo is one of the most recognizable American actors working today, with a huge number of action movies under his belt. The second cousin of famed director Robert Rodriguez, the two have collaborated on 10 different films, notably on Spy Kids, Machete and its sequel, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and From Dusk to Dawn.

For more about Dead in Tombstone and the Dead in Tombstone Blu-ray release, see Dead in Tombstone Blu-ray Review published by Kenneth Brown on February 18, 2014 where this Blu-ray release scored 3.5 out of 5.Fun to a degree, but overcome by familiarity, not to mention a camera that often won't stop moving. The unrated, direct to video Dead In Tombstone gets a simultaneous Blu-ray and DVD release on October 22nd. Betrayed by his gang, shot to pieces and sent to Hell, infamous outlaw Guerrero de la Cruz strikes a deal with the Devil, a fallen angel eager to add a few more bloodthirsty villains to his collection. Rising from the grave, Cruz is granted a 24-hour window to hunt down his killers -- Snake (Edward Akrout), Darko (Ovidiu Niculescu), Baptiste (Emil Hostina), Ramos (Ronan Summers), Washington (Radu Micu) and their money grubbing, power hungry leader, Red Cavanaugh (Anthony Michael Hall) -- and condemn them to Lucifer's torture chambers, where they belong. But Guerrero's simple mission is complicated by a plot to to control a series of gold mines, the involvement of a corrupt businessman named Judah Clark (Colin Mace), and the emergence of Calathea Massey (Dina Meyer), the widow of a local sheriff (Daniel Lapaine) Red killed minutes before Cruz. The plot is pretty similar to 'The Crow' really but lets be frank its a generic commonly used theme in most genres. The best thing about the film is the visuals I guess, it does look quite authentic with good locations and the town of 'Tombstone/Edendale' is actually quite big and impressive looking. It looks like they spent all their budget on the sets and costumes if you ask me. Gun slinging wise the action is crude and a bit hokey really, there is plenty of that old 90's John Woo style nonsense going on with no shortage of explosions...big explosions. Its also a bit too dark at times for me, way too much shadow as they clearly attempt a more dramatic artistic look, hey kudos for trying.
