About this deal

As a child I assumed that like with Take That and the Spice Girls European/World chart dominance, Busted and other multiple chart topping, BRIT Award winners naturally followed suit. Busted – Who's David". 16 November 2015. Archived from the original on 21 December 2021 . Retrieved 4 January 2016– via YouTube. James Bourne said: “I’m beyond excited to begin a new chapter with Warner Chappell! My songwriting over the last 20 years has taken me on the most amazing journey. I still feel like I have a lot more to offer as a songwriter and an artist. Onwards!” Year 3000’ and ‘Crashed The Wedding’ for their pure silly sugar rush nature. ‘What I Go To School For’ and ‘3AM’ because I genuinely like them.

But “Who’s David?” can’t even muster that kind of energy, which is a problem – you need it to make the listener feel your spite and venom, not just pity it. For Busted the desire to make an angry, slut-shaming punk-pop record and the desire to make a hooky, singalong Busted record turn out to clash horribly. You can hear it in the chorus – which starts in a typical Busted jaunty, anthemic mode ( “Are you sure that you’re mine…”) and then ends up at – in the uncut version – “You’re just a whore, you sleep around the town / And I got proof cos the word is going round”. Oh, mate.I had no particular relationship to this song, besides appreciating that it was at least a little different from the previous singles, and thinking Who’s David? was quite an intriguing title for a mainstream Pop song. I agree their worst No. 1 is yet to come, Air Hostess I have a soft-spot as a seeming act of grotesque self-parody. “Messed my pants” indeed. There’s something slightly glam about the chorus (in both the 80s hair metal and 70s use of the word) but whereas the best of those groups would have put some kind of sledgehammer behind it, a spark of energy, something to disguise the song’s obvious deficiencies, Busted’s delivery is so featherweight they almost blow away. It’s a truly awful production which helps them none, leaving them exposed as a bunch of Jilted Johns without a decent joke or tune crying into their cans of Bass Shandy. And I literally commuted to that school from where there was a primary/secondary split, and specifically doing so for my sixth-form years, having been to the local secondary school before that. There’s a specific sixth-form college in Weymouth, my brother went there a few months after this, but the highest academic achievers – and I remained at least on the fringes of that category myself – tended to do the commute to “Hardye’s” for sixth form instead, it being one of those excellent but comprehensive-in-name-only schools in Tory strongholds you saw jostling for position in newspaper league tables at this point. Probably still do, despite changes to metrics IIRC.) Reading a few posts higher up about: ‘America or Busted’. Their scripted MTV documentary to break the States, coinciding and filmed around this single release period. Who’s David, you ask? This David was actually at a “high school” at this point, except it wasn’t called that, it was simply The Thomas Hardye School. The feeder schools below that (one of which was literally next door) were and are called “middle schools” though.

Hits of the World – Eurochart Hot 100". Billboard. Vol.116, no.10. 30 August 2003. p.53 . Retrieved 21 July 2012.you are correct that this also had one of the worst first week sales not just of their career but for a number one in the 00s; Music Week suggests it was just over 30,000 (50 of which were a limited cassette run that thus makes this the last chart topper to be released on the format unless I’m mistaken). Gibsone, Harriet (24 November 2016). "Busted on reforming: 'People don't get why we are here again … they know how it ended' ". The Guardian. ISSN 0261-3077 . Retrieved 21 April 2023.

Answer: Who’s David played a pivotal role in catapulting Busted to success. It became one of their most well-known and beloved songs, solidifying their position in the music industry and paving the way for further achievements. 9. Are there any notable performances or live renditions of Who’s David?Who’s David?” is a song about a cheating girlfriend. There are great kiss-off songs in pop, but as cathartic payoffs go, “I’m over you / Ooo ooo ooo / I don’t like you” isn’t exactly top tier. There are also plenty of average jealous-guy records, with varying levels of rage and contempt, entitlement and pain. Lines like “I know your pretty face / Gets far with guys / But your make up ain’t enough to hide the lies” read like they could be from some Nuggets-era compilation makeweight or Mod Revival also-ran. I suppose the problem for a band like Busted in the US is how much use would Americans who aren’t anglophiles have for an act who were essentially a British riff on a US style? A bit like NBC making a US remake of Coupling when the original was pretty much just a British riff on Friends. Who's David (Japanese CD single liner notes). Busted. Oliver, Mark (13 August 2004). "Cliff hit voted worst ever number one". The Guardian . Retrieved 16 August 2016.Once Busted parted ways in 2005, Bourne formed Son of Dork. In 2013, Bourne, and fellow Busted member Matt Willis, came together with the members of McFly to form supergroup McBusted. They released their eponymous album at the end of 2014 which reached the UK Top 10. Anyway, I was in Sixth Form by this point; I could say more about my experience of Busted but I see I pretty much covered it in the comments for You Said No, and more succinctly than I would be likely to do now. Good job, 2019 me! I might say more when we meet them for the last time in the near future. Who's David (UK cassette single sleeve). Busted. Universal Records, Island Records. 2004. Retrieved 4 January 2016. I don’t think I thought anything of the lyrics to “Who’s David?” at the time. I was vaguely aware it was some kind of breakup song, but a lot of the words are rather indecipherable unless you’re listening carefully. Having a lyric about “sleeping around the town” does seem pretty gross for a band that seemed to mainly appeal to pre-teens, although it was hardly alone in that era.
