Last but not least, one of the attractions of AKCC is the 18th hole, one of the longest in Southeast Asia. It's a Par 5 with a distance of 643 meters. The Park Drain Hotel was completed by 1899, when Dunston held a dinner there, to outline his plans for the future. He went on to open his own woolen mill, the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill in Salem, Oregon. Kay was an immigrant from England and a weaver by trade. He had worked in various textile mills on the east coast of the United States. Before opening his own mill in Salem, he helped to set up only the second mill in Oregon at Brownsville. Ayer Keroh Country Club designed by a team led by Tun Dr. Abdul Ghafar bin Baba, the then Chief Minister of Malacca and a golfing aficionado. The designers of the course very wisely maintained a large part of the virgin jungle so as to limit as much as possible the negative ecological impact the golf course would have on the area. Today, golfers share the course with a varied species of birds, monkeys, squirrels, snakes and monitor lizards that live in the jungle lining the fairways of the course. The company began to expand their product line into other woolen textile products and later into apparel. In 1912 the company opened a weaving mill in Washougal, Washington (across the Columbia River from Portland) for the production of woolen fabrics used in suits and other clothing.
