About this deal

Obviously something changed in me and I did have a child when I was 21 years old. Cooking and cleaning, changing nappies (diapers), talking in non-existent baby languages became central to my existence. Then I had another kid and it got worse. Then I started homeschooling those kids, and then had another kid and…. As the name suggests, a kitchen witch focuses on the kitchen! They incorporate magic into cooking and baking, and they might choose herbs for their magical properties just as much as for their taste. Kitchen witches might prepare meals for specific holidays, purposes, or rituals to share with their community or coven. Hearth Witch

Similar to a hearth witch, a house witch focuses on making their house a magical space. Think: cooking, cleaning, and performing homey rituals. Whether you prefer to be called a hearth witch or a house witch—or both—is really up to you! Ceremonial Witch Whatever label I would choose, I am and have been for a long time, a Hearth Witch or Kitchen Witch or Domestic Witch. It’s something that just happened naturally – I never actually chose to infuse magic into my domesticity, it is something that I just did without thinking about it. I could deny the witch label all I wanted and still it is what I was and am. Sea witches have a special connection to the ocean. They might practice water magic, use seawater in their rituals, bring seashells home for their altar, and pay special attention to the Moon (because it controls the tides, after all). Sex Witch I was resistant though, as I had trouble letting go of my spite for the witch label. But researching the label lead to me to the realisation that my Domestic Paganism was nothing more or less than Witchcraft. Sure it might also be Paganism, but it was most definitely Witchcraft no matter how I tried to avoid the word. I also realised how stupid I was being, I knew that witchcraft and Wicca were not the same thing, and the Wiccanate Witchcraft annoyed many other Pagans as well, so the grudge I was holding was just a wilful hindrance. The Greek goddess Hestia or Roman Vesta is a goddess specifically of the Hearth, and she was honoured in many ways, including by the Vestal Virgins who tended her flame in ancient temples. But, you don’t have to honour any specific deity to be a Hearth Witch.

Sharpen your kitchen witch skills.

Are you a cottage witch? A cottage witch, sometimes called a house witch or a hearth witch, bases her practice around the hearth & home. Like green witches, plant witches work with plants! Their practice might focus on a connection with nature. They may study the history, traditions, and cultural associations of different plants and herbs as well as use them in rituals, potions, and spells. Gray Witch No need to be a gourmet chef. Nearly any recipe can be enhanced and used for its magical properties. Yep, you guessed it—this witch is all about the drama of a ceremony. They focus on ceremonial magic or “high magic,” which often involves more elaborate or specific rituals than everyday magic. Sea Witch

A witch who works alone and under their own steam rather than with a group of other witches. A solitary witch can follow one particular branch of witchcraft or a combination. Hereditary Witch Listen to the house itself and honour it like a living being. My house’s personality is like a classy elderly woman with low tolerance for clutter and a need for quiet. She is discerning as to who she will let in, isn’t fond of parties, loud noise, or chaos. She is over 100 years old and the floors are very creaky, full of dents and character, but charming. Her and I get along quite well, except I find her standards for cleanliness a tad oppressive. She reminds me that she has only lived this long because of her high standards and she rewards our hard work with her safety and comfort. She also encourages spiritual work and attunement to higher frequencies, but she won’t let us get too ungrounded. The garden has made her very happy. Your house has a personality too! Every house has its unique vibe and will encourage its stewards to live a certain way. If you work in harmony with your house, it will take care of you. Take time to get to know them and what their needs are. a bit of my front garden She works to strengthen and honer the home as a sacred space, making it simple, peaceful, and nourishing.Keep a balance of elements in each room. Earth, air, fire and water are best balanced in harmony in each room. You can represent each element through the colours you use, such as warm colours for fire, light colours for air, blues for water and earth tones for earth. Represent the elements with items such as candles, incense, feathers, bowls, flowers, shells, etc. Each room will have a unique elemental requirement based on its purpose, but that is a whole other topic, so just try to have a general elemental balance. Just like the name sounds, a hereditary witch is someone who inherited their powers or their practice through their family line. Think Practical Magic. Crystal Witch Essentially, Hearth Witchcraft is a daily, living mindfulness practice to transform the mundane into the magical. The Hearth Witch combines the energies of the Green Witch and Kitchen Witch guided by the magic of the home. I learned of the term “Kitchen Witch” of course, but I didn’t like it very much at all. My role as a Pagan (but never a witch!) wasn’t limited to the kitchen so I couldn’t possibly be just a Kitchen Witch. Finding The Hearth and the Witch

While the Hearth Witch is in tune with nature, it is the Green Witch who wants to make her home in nature. The Hearth Witch wants to invite nature (and all her elements) inside for biscuits and tea. We should probably begin with this most obvious of questions – what is Hearth Witchery? I think it’s probably easy enough to guess. The hearth being, once upon a time, the centre of the home, makes Hearth Witchery the witchcraft that revolves around the home. It is very similar, and in some cases identical to, Kitchen Witchery or Domestic Witchcraft.

But Then I Had a Child

The cottage witch often evolves from a kitchen witch practice, expanding into a full household practice.

As anyone who’s had a baby knows, life gets suddenly quite mundane. Housekeeping becomes everything. Besides caring for an infant, there’s constant laundry, cooking, cleaning, and endless chores to stay afloat. Baby witches—a term you might have seen frequently used on WitchTok—are simply beginner witches. They may start out following a certain doctrine, depending on their teacher/s, and then, over time, experiment with other ones. You gotta go your own way! Kitchen WitchWhile green witches tend to be experts at magical foraging, the cottage witch tends to place more emphasis on growing her own herbs and magical gardening. Many practitioners consider the ritual bath a way to reclaim their inner strength. Some even say it increases their magical potency in rituals. I joined covens and read a ton of books, learning about all kinds of witchy perspectives and paths. I felt like I could go in several different directions, but soon I got pregnant and became a mother, which narrowed my options. At least once a month, perhaps during the full or new moon, make a point to create a bath of indulgence and rejuvenation. Light candles, play music, anoint the body with essential oil blends and relax. So the why is simple, I am a Hearth Witch because that is simply what I am. There wasn’t really any choice in the matter, just a recognition and acceptance of what already was true. I mean, it’s not a normal person who prefers to sweep the carpet with a straw broom rather than use a vacuum cleaner.
